Francesca Franchina, MS Ed. talks with Medical Missionary and Emergency Room Physician (Kettering Health Network) Dr, Sylvia Gleason, DO and Ohio University Medical Student Corinne Salva about PROJECT CONGO and their recent African trip to Uganda, Rwanda and The Congo where Wright State University Engineering Students installed solar panels for electricity at St, Luke’s Hospital; and all participated in medical missionary work sponsored by Project CONGO and The Salesians founded by St, Don Bosco. Francesca Franchina, MS Ed. speaks with Sr. Beatrice Chipeta a Rosarian Sister, and Peter Daino of Karonga, Malawi (Africa), Tess Kunesch (Dayton) and Jim Lund National Director of Catholic Relief Services (Baltimore MD) about the Lusubilo (Hope) Community Based Orphan Care Project in Malawi, serving over 9,000 children and 800+ adults in 66 villages to improve the nutritional status of orphans and to increase food production capacity so that nutritional improvement is substantial. Sr. Beatrice was recently awarded the prestigious Fordham University OPUS Prize for Humanitarian Entrepreneurship.

Parish Youth Initiatives – Aug. 18, 2010

Francesca Franchina, MS Ed. talks with Josh Englefield, Director of Youth Ministry at St. Luke the Evangelist Parish in Beavercreek, OH and students who participated in The St. Luke Summer 2010 Parish Youth Initiatives. All three activities offered the high school youth an experience with Christ that deepened their faith. Students relate their experiences on their mission trip to Harlan Kentucky where they rehabbed homes; their journey to the Franciscan University Youth Conference in Steubenville, OH with 2000 students from all over the USA; culminating in Cross Training which ran for a week at the parish designed to engage dialogue in the small group, witness talks, activities, games and topped off with an intergenerational brunch which they prepared and hosted for parish members, table talk and day long canoe trip.

The great ministry occurring in the health and education professions serving widows and orphans who have suffered greatly due to ethnic genocide, extreme violence through building and servicing schools, farming cooperatives, medical facilities, micro-financing and Small Christian communities.
