Mountain was a symbol of prayer and of God’s presence. When Jesus Christ scaled the mountain to elect his twelve Apostles, he made such election a prayer event. We saw this pattern repeated in the early Church as they elected other Apostles and deacons. This manner of elections seems to be lost in modern election rigging, cronyism, and nepotism. Hence, public office is fraught with less God-gearing service people. What happens to the method of Christ and the Apostolic style?
Who is being tempted and Jesus Christ was not? (Matt.4:1-10). Jesus passed through all forms of tests and trials. “Tempted in every was like us but did not sin” (Heb.4:15). Heaven watched the drama of the devil trying to entice Jesus Christ with everything that any human could have desired. Finally, Jesus won victory and angels came and ministered to him. Every battle we win on earth against the devil causes hosts of heaven to rejoice in us.
Jesus’ Father is God. Therefore, He teaches that every child os God, teenagers included, must be close to the heart and house of God and do what God wants us to do.
The birth of Jesus Christ, bringing great joy, countered all the bad and depressing news past and present and opened us to the joy that will be for all the people.
