After falling away from his faith in college, finding himself and his family in an unimaginable swamp of debt, and experiencing a period of homelessness for him and his family, he began a painstaking journey to learn about personal finances from the ultimate learning source — The Bible!

New program – Medjugorje: Message of Hope for the World

We are pleased to announce a new program on Radio Maria, Medjugorje: Message of Hope for the World, hosted by Ann Vucic.

Ann has been closely connected with the events of Medjugorje since the first days of the apparitions. She has devoted her life to evangelization, especially spreading the messages of Medjugorje through her work as a pilgrimage coordinator and guide, conference/retreat speaker, interpreter for Medjugorje priests and visionaries, writer and radio/tv guest and host. In the midst of the turbulent, morally confusing times in which we live, it is easy to believe that darkness has conquered the world. Many wonder when God is going to intervene.

There is good news, however; God IS intervening already.  He has sent His mother to us in Medjugorje to bring messages of tremendous hope for the world.
Ann’s program will air on alternating Fridays, at 10:30am Central/11:30am Eastern. We invite you to join her as she explores the phenomenon of Medjugorje more deeply and discusses the meaning and significance of these apparitions for our times.

(While the apparitions of Medjugorje are not yet officially approved, the Church has taken positive steps forward in the approval process. Archbishop Henryk Hoser (retired Archbishop of Warsaw, Poland) Apostolic Visitor for the parish of Medjugorje, oversees the running of the shrine and reports directly to the Vatican, effectively placing Medjugorje under direct Vatican supervision.)

With a strong love for Our Heavenly Mother, she wanted to find out what more has been revealed to us about Our Lady’s life beyond the scriptures. She is a singer/songwriter, having performed at the Divine Will International Conference in Florida. At the direction of former Radio Maria priest director, Fr. Robert Young, she began a Divine Will cenacle in her home. Since then, she has fervently poured over her volumes, and begun a Divine Will cenacle. She currently works as a hospital chaplain in New Brunswick, NJ.

Brother Nicholas Riccardi, son of Laura Riccardi, is a professed brother in the Congregation of Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary. Cross Roads is back!

We are pleased to announce the return of one of our former presenters, Mark Newman.

Mark was born and raised in a Christian family. His father was an American Baptist Minister, and Mark was very active in church activities all through his youth, graduating from Judson University, a Baptist College, in 1982. His conversion to Catholicism was both unexpected and profound. Through the RCIA process, he came to believe in the Catholic Church as “The Church.” It was also through this process that his real conversion to Christ took place. Since then, he has had a deep desire to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to be an instrument of evangelization in any way He desires.

In Mark’s program, Cross Roads, he will bring the Gospel Message of Jesus Christ to listeners through personal conversion stories, catechetical teaching, inspirational music and scriptural discussion. More than simply telling stories of how people became Catholic, he will share conversions to Christ from both cradle Catholics and those who did find Him in His Church. The program will also reach out to Catholics who are no longer practicing their faith, as well as those who may be considering coming into the Church. By utilizing conversion stories of both the laity and religious, Cross Roads will proclaim the Gospel in a very personal, down to earth way listeners will be able to relate too.

We invite you to tune in to Cross Roads, starting Monday, August 24, 2020, at 5:00pm Central/6:00pm Eastern, and be inspired by the stories Mark will share.

Rafael describes his program, Words of Confidence, as one “in which he will share the Word, then take a real life situation which he has just encountered through that week (by the way, it could be changing a tire to watching how they fix his roof, to putting down tile, or my daughter’s car blowing up for lack of oil, or better yet my wife nagging me for years to do my program in English and thus Radio Maria!)
Then somehow God does the miracle of putting it all together, in the mix of laughter and sometimes tears, He never ceases to amaze me!” We invite you to experience Rafael’s weekly journeys on Wednesdays, at 1:30 pm Central/2:30 pm Eastern.

Heart Warming 2017

I am writing from Alexandria, where Radio Maria has its office, a warm chapel, a friendly group of volunteers and all together are living as a family of Radio Maria.

Many of these people have shared with me their very heartwarming life stories and they are so happy to have reached peace and joy through Radio Maria.

Unfortunately, there are still people with a “Cold” soul and heart and I am trying to get them every day through Radio Maria. They need Our Lady’s message of hope, healing and peace to warm up their hearts.

Radio Maria today is launching a Heartwarming Campaign to share stories of people that put their hearts in the warm hands of God and our Blessed Mary.

We are going to share their voices and stories in a few videos on our website www.radiomaria.us and Facebook account.

During the Heartwarming Campaign, your “warm” donations to Radio Maria will give extra warmth!

Thank you in advance for helping Our Lady to help us!

Michael Molinelli is hosting a program here at RadioMaria on the topic of “Religion and Architecture.” It premiered on Monday, February 8th at noon and is running in the same slot for 12 weeks.

The series, based on Molinelli’s live presentations of the same name, explores how dominant philosophies/theologies created the most popular architecture movements of the western hemisphere. It will also examine how many religions across many cultures from around the world use the same three basic architectural techniques. Finally the series explores Catholic liturgical history specifically and how it forms the church buildings we use today

PRAYER FOR PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS

Please join us in praying for persecuted Christians around the world

Father in Heaven, you make your sun shine
on good and bad alike.
Your Son Jesus Christ died for us all
and in his glorious Resurrection
He still retains the five wounds of his Passion.
With his divine power he now sustains
all those who suffer persecution and martyrdom
for the sake of their fidelity
to the faith of the Church.
Merciful and mighty Father,
do not allow Cain to return again to murder
helpless Abel, innocent Abel.
May persecuted Christians around the world
remain, like Mary, their Mother,
together at the foot of the cross
of Christ the Martyr.
Comfort those menaced by violence
and those oppressed by uncertainty.
May your Holy Spirit of love
make fruitful the witness and the blood
of those who die forgiving.

FILE - In this Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011 file photo, a blood-spattered poster of Jesus Christ is seen inside the the Coptic Christian Saints Church in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, Egypt, which killed some 21 people. Despite his rhetoric and promises to uphold the civil nature of Egypt, Shafiq seemed to some Egyptians an odd choice for Christians who suffered attacks under Mubarak's near 30 year-rule, culminating in the bombing of a church in Alexandria that killed 21 people attending a New Year's Even Mass more than a year ago. LENTEN REGULATIONS

Wednesday, February 10, 2016 is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent In order to assist us during this Lenten season, the Church reminds us of some of the minimal requirements that are to be observed:

ABSTINENCE: All the faithful who have reached 14 years of age are required to abstain totally from meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent. FASTING: All the faithful between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive are bound to fast on

FASTING: All the faithful between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive are bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This practice involves limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Light sustenance may also be taken on two other occasions during the day.

EASTER DUTY: After having reached the age of discretion, members of the faithful are bound to confess once a year grave sins which have not already been absolved and to receive Holy Communion once a year. ‹This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter Season, unless for a good reason it is fulfilled at another time of the year. The faithful are encouraged to celebrate the sacraments of the Eucharist and Penance frequently during the Lenten season. Reading the Scriptures, prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, generosity toward the poor and the needy are additional means of becoming more involved in the Lenten season.

Are excused from fast or abstinence, besides those outside the age limits, those of unsound mind, the sick, the frail, pregnant or nursing women according to need for meat or nourishment, manual laborers according to need. They can substitute in whole or in part for fast and abstinence other forms of penance, especially works of charity and exercise of piety. Pastors and parents are to see to it that minors who are not bound by the law of fast and abstinence are educated in an authentic sense of penance.

It should be noted that Fridays throughout the year are designated days of penance. The Code of Canon Law states that Friday is a day of abstinence from meat throughout the year except on Solemnities. The American Bishops allow us to choose a different form of penance rather than abstaining from meat, but there must be some form of penance, for this is the day we commemorate Christ’s suffering and death. The bishops stress that “among the works of voluntary self-denial and personal penance…we give first place to abstinence from flesh meat” (Pastoral Statement on Fasting and Abstinence).

Let us pray for our political leaders

Pope St. Clement of Rome provides the Church’s most ancient prayer for political authorities:

“Grant to them, Lord, health, peace, concord, and stability, so that they may exercise without offense the sovereignty that you have given them. Master, heavenly King of the ages, you give glory, honor, and power over the things of earth to the sons of men. Direct, Lord, their counsel, following what is pleasing and acceptable in your sight, so that by exercising with devotion and in peace and gentleness the power that you have given to them, they may find favor with you.”

DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE LEGAL PROTECTION OF UNBORN CHILDREN

FRIDAY, JANUARY 22, 2016

43rd Anniversary of the Supreme Court Decision, Roe vs. Wade which legalized abortion in the United States, Jan. 22, 1973.

DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE LEGAL PROTECTION OF UNBORN CHILDREN

ab

PRAY FOR AN END TO ABORTION

Read Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s Statement

What a wrenching thing it is each year.  Just last month we celebrated the birth of the baby Jesus, fruit of Mary’s humble “yes” to God’s gift of new life. This month we celebrated the arrival of the Wise Men to greet the newborn King, who “appeared and the soul felt its worth.”  Then we observe the birthday of a great preacher whose basic message was the dignity of the human person and the sacredness of all human life.  And then we turn, as we must each year, to recall a legal decision that said “no” to new life, has led so many women and others involved in abortion to grieve their loss and doubt their own worth, and has deprived a whole class of people — pre-born babies — of their right to life. Such an anniversary cannot be celebrated. But it does offer an opportunity to take stock — to ask where we are, forty-three years after the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions, and where we need to go.

We live in an increasingly divided nation, where people of different views as well as different races, religions, and national origins often seem to lack the patience and good will to respect each other and try to live in harmony.  Abortion itself, despite the endorsement of our highest legal tribunal and many political and cultural elites, is as controversial as ever.  Most Americans oppose a policy allowing legal abortion for virtually any reason – though many still do not realize that this is what the Supreme Court gave us.  Most want to protect unborn children at later stages of pregnancy, to regulate or limit the practice of abortion, and to stop the use of taxpayer dollars for the destruction of unborn children.  Yet many who support important goals of the pro-life movement do not identify as “pro-life,” a fact which should lead us to examine how we present our pro-life vision to others. Even as Americans remain troubled by abortion, a powerful and well-financed lobby increasingly insists that there is no real issue here – that abortion is just another part of “basic health care” for women, to be seamlessly integrated into our health system and our lives. Planned Parenthood and other abortion promoters say they will no longer call themselves “pro-choice,” apparently realizing that this phrase might allow others to choose a path different from their own.  They hold that abortion must be celebrated as a positive good for women and society, and those who cannot in conscience provide it are to be condemned for practicing substandard medicine and waging a “war on women.”

We see this in the rising opposition of some political leaders to the very notion of a right of conscience on abortion.  A few years ago, for example, President Obama pledged to defend the conscience rights of those who do not accept abortion, and his Administration assured us that longstanding federal laws protecting these rights must be fully enforced.  Yet in the final days of 2015, he and other Democratic leaders were unwilling to support the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act, a modest measure to provide for effective enforcement of these laws. While this is disturbing, it is also an opportunity.  The great majority of Americans are not committed to this extreme ideology.  They do not see the unborn child as an illness or a tumor.  They are repelled when they see the callousness of the abortion industry, as in the recent undercover videos of Planned Parenthood officials calmly discussing the harvesting of body parts.  They do not want to be pushed into actively promoting and paying for abortion.  They do not want doctors and nurses who are sensitive to the value of life at its most vulnerable to be driven from the healing professions.  They are open to hearing a message of reverence for life.

In taking up this challenge, we who present the pro-life message must always strive to be better messengers.  A cause that teaches the inexpressibly great value of each and every human being cannot show disdain or disrespect for any fellow human being.  We should celebrate human freedom, always reminding others that this freedom is ours so we can freely choose the good – and that to enjoy this freedom, each of us must first of all be allowed to live.   And especially in this Year of Mercy, we recall with Pope Francis that each human life is created by a God whose love is infinite — and that this same love is a source of unbounded mercy and forgiveness for all who have fallen short of God’s plans for us.  For its part, through the healing ministry of Project Rachel, the Catholic Church seeks to offer this gift of God’s mercy and reconciliation to all who have been involved in abortion.

I invite all who are concerned about the tragedy of abortion to recommit themselves to this vision of life and love, a vision that excludes no one.  Catholics in particular can take part in the 9 Days for Life campaign, uniting in prayer and action from January 16-24 for the protection of life at every stage and in every circumstance. Information on the many ways to participate and sign up is available at www.9daysforlife.com.

Finally, let us never be distracted by the false charge that this life-affirming cause is merely a political or partisan issue.  It is an essential moral vision that lifts up every human person.  With Pope Francis let us remember that “this defense of unborn life is closely linked to the defense of each and every other human right
. It is not ‘progressive’ to try to resolve problems by eliminating a human life” (Evangelii Gaudium, nos. 213-4). Genuine progress must be progress for all, beginning with those most vulnerable who cannot speak for themselves.  May God bless our efforts to uphold human life!

THE HEALING MERCY OF GOD BY KATHLEEN KEEFE

NEW PROGRAM – THE HEALING MERCY OF GOD BY KATHLEEN KEEFE – Tuesdays, 5pm (ET); 4pm (CT).

Teacher, Marian catechist, author of 5 books, family coun- selor, and spiritual director, Kathleen Keefe has conduced parish missions, healing retreats and national confer- ences.

The Healing Mercy of God will begin with Mary’s role in leading us to forgiveness and repentance. Understanding how we may be blocking God’s mercy and the importance of humility in opening our hearts to mercy through forgiveness of sins, will be stressed.

As we get closer to Lent, we will turn to the Wound in the Heart of Jesus as the source of our healing and cover in depths the effects of the Sacrament of Confession; how to approach the Tribunal of Mercy; and the role of priests as confessor and spiritual guide of our souls.

All of this prepares us to understand the great gift of the Holy Eucharist. We are enlight- ened about the importance of devotion to God’s Mercy and the Feast of Mercy are offered the opportunity to enthrone the Merciful Jesus in our hearts and homes.

Tune in on Tuesdays at 5pm (ET)/4pm (CT). Kathleen will be waiting to hear from you. Call 866-333-MARY (6279).

Eucharist, Mercy & Saints – New program by Kathleen Beckman

Called to be saints we are healed by Divine Mercy to live the joy of the Eucharist. This program urges growth in Eucharistic holiness and proclaims the healing power of Divine Mercy. The host, Kathleen Beckman, author of “Rekindle Eucharistic Amazement” and “God’s Healing Mercy” helps us to rediscover the centrality of the Eucharist and Divine Mercy for holiness, healing and happiness. Catechesis is based on two papal encyclicals: “Ecclesia de Eucharistia” and “Dives in Misericordia”. The lives of the saints are highlighted for their practical example of living Eucharistic lives as vessels of Divine Mercy. Let us together live the adventure of God’s healing mercy and Eucharistic love to become future saints.

One of the favorite prayers of Blessed Mother Theresa (by Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman)

jesus

PRAYER COMPOSED BY BLESSED JOHN HENRY CARDINAL NEWMAN
(One of the favorite prayers of Blessed Mother Theresa)

Dear Jesus, help me to spread Your fragrance wherever I go.
Flood my soul with Your Spirit and life.
Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly, that my life may only be a radiance of Yours.
Shine through me, and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Your presence in my soul.
Let them look up and see no longer me, but only Jesus!
Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as You shine, so to shine as to be a light to others.
The light, O Jesus, will be all from You; none of it will be mine.
It will be you, shining on others through me.
Let me thus praise You the way You love best, by shining on those around me.
Let me preach You without preaching, not by words but by my example, by the catching force of the sympathetic influence of what I do,
the evident fullness of the love my heart bears to You.
Amen.

The words of Brother Malachy accurately reflected the beauty of the night of Adoration, Mass and fellowship at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City just two days into this Jubilee year, coordinated by the Archdiocese’s Young Adult Office.  In addition to all of our Radio Maria listeners at home, more than 2,300 souls, mostly young adults, filled the Church for the Mass celebrated by Cardinal Dolan, with music by Matt Maher and Audrey Assad!
