- The writings of the prophets were eventually enshrined into the canon known as the Old Testament. But their contemporaries treated them as outcasts. Their message was seldom welcomed by the people of God. Not a few of them complained to God about being mistreated. Yet, they continued to bear witness to God’s Word.
- Following in the footsteps of the prophets and our crucified Lord, the Saints were often rejected by their own; in particular, by clergy members and their own fellow Catholics. The witness they bore and the reform they initiated were resisted by the people of God equal to that of their Jewish ancestors in the Old Testament. Yet, today, the holiness of the Saints is celebrated and their work is honored by the Catholic Church.
- God uses the just and the unjust to test our work. Therefore, do not be discouraged by adversity. Learn from the prophets and Saints.
