Blessed Feast of Corpus Christi

A Blessed Feast of Corpus Christi,
the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

REMEMBER: AT HOLY MASS, THE BREAD AND WINE BECOME
THE BODY AND BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST.

Jesus said to them,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood,
you have no life in yourselves.”
“He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
“For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.”
“He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.”
“As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me,
he also will live because of Me.”
“This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died;
he who eats this bread will live forever.”
John 6:53-58

January 29, 2015 – Fr. Joseph Fessio and Regina Doman

Ken talks with Ignatius Press founder Fr Joseph Fessio on St Pope Paul VI’s encyclical “On Human Life” (Ignatius Press) and Regina Doman about the 10th anniversary edition of “Angel in the Waters” (Sophia Institute Press) The papal encyclical Humanae Vitae (On Human Life) made headlines worldwide. Many talked about the encyclical when it was issued in 1968, but few actually read it. Why is it perhaps the most controversial document in modern Church history?

This Ignatius Press edition combines Humanae Vitae with commentary by popular and respected Catholic authors Mary Eberstadt, James Hitchcock, and Jennifer Fulwiler in order to address this question and to shed light on the document’s enduring wisdom. On Human Life is available at: www.ignatius.com

Since its first release in 2004, “Angel in the Waters” has been a best-selling, life-transforming children’s book. It has been carried in countless hospital gift shops, pro-life centers, and Catholic book stores. In just ten years, over 130,000 copies have been sold. The 10th Anniversary, hardcover edition is a simple, non-confrontational book that makes young children decidedly pro-life long before they ever hear the word “abortion.” In its mother’s womb, a tiny baby grows, explores the waters, and talks with the angel who is there. A story that will delight all young children, because the journey from conception to birth is their story, too. “Angel in the Waters” is available at: shop.sophiainstitute.com Visit Regina at: www.reginadoman.com

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, interview with Father James Loughran, Director of the Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute (GEII)

On Friday the 23rd, Radio Maria NY hosted a special program on the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Since 1898, traditionally observed in the northern hemisphere from the 18th to the 25th of January and formerly known as the Octave of Christian Unity, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity involves ‎Christian communities and Churches across the world, including the Catholic ‎Church.

Launched over a century ago by Fr. Paul James Francis Wattson, SA (1863 – 1940) founder of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement at Graymoor, Garrison, NY, since its inception the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity fostered reconciliation and healing through atonement — the unity of men and women with God and with one another. Fr. Paul was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1886. In 1908, he initiated the Church Unity Octave believing that a time set aside for prayer and seminars would hasten Christian unity. An advocate of corporate reunion between the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches, he finally embraced Roman Catholicism. In 1909, the Society of the Atonement became the first religious community of Christians to be received corporately into the Roman Catholic Church since the Reformation. Fr. Paul was ordained a Catholic priest by Archbishop John M. Farley in 1910.

(More on the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement and the Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute (GEII), at: http://atonementfriars.org and http://geii.org/week_of_prayer_for_christian_unity/)

“Since 1968, the resource material for reflection, prayer and celebration on a ‎chosen theme for the Week of Prayer for Christain Unity is jointly issued by the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Promoting ‎Christian Unity and the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches (WCC).  This year the theme was: “Jesus said to her: “Give me to drink“, taken from the ‎episode of the Samaritan woman at the well, in John’s Gospel.”

In his recent meeting with the men and women religious, the Pope spoke extensively about ecumenism suggesting the three main ingredients for a fruitful dialogue:

The Pope spoke of three conditions at the core of the search for Christian unity – firstly, there’s no unity without conversion of heart, which includes forgiving and asking for forgiveness. Secondly he said there is no unity without prayer and therefore men and women religious who pray for unity are like ‘an invisible monastery’ bringing together Christians of different denominations from different countries around the world.Thirdly, the Pope said, there is no unity without holiness of daily life. so the more we put our search for unity into practise in our relations with others, the more we will be modelling our lives on the message of the Gospel.

January 8, 2015 – Anne Hendershott

Ken talks with Dr. Anne Hendershott about “Renewal: How a New Generation of Faithful Priests and Bishops is Revitalizing the Catholic Church” (Encounter Books) In the wake of the clergy abuse scandal of the last decade, many media commentators predicted the “end” of the Catholic priesthood. Demands for an end to celibacy, coupled with calls for women’s ordination, dominated discussions on the effectiveness of the Catholic Church in America. “Renewal” argues that the aging generation of progressives that continues to lobby Church leaders to change Catholic teachings on reproductive rights, same-sex marriage, and women’s ordination is being replaced by younger men and women who are attracted to the Church because of the very timelessness of its teachings. Anne’s book is available at: www.encounterbooks.com To learn more about Anne visit: http://www.franciscan.edu

December 16, 2014 – “Falling in Love” biology by Vicky Thorn

Vicki Thorn is well known and highly respected for the 1984 start-up of Project Rachael, a ministry to women who have had an abortion. Project Rachael is now an official ministry of the USCCB and has active programs in over 140 of the 195 Catholic dioceses in the USA.

Vicki is also an authority and popular speaker on the Biology of the Theology of the Body–the biology and science of “falling in love” and the differences between men and women. Vicki gives a lot of credit to pheromones–whatever they are–she’ll explain that.

Over 40% of children born today do not have a Dad that is married to their mother. Consequently, most single adult families are headed by mothers. I hope that Vicki can enlighten us to the reasons for this unfortunate situation and teach us about the male hormone system that is somewhat similar to the female system. The male response to pregnancy, birth and subsequent parenting is also very interesting.

And, we want to give approximately equal treatment to the female body’s response system and how hormonal birth control may affect her attraction mechanism. Our last three popes have each had something to say about women. Pope Saint John Paul II even wrote a lengthy APOSTOLIC LETTER, MULIERIS DIGNITATEM, ON THE DIGNITY AND VOCATION OF WOMEN ON THE OCCASION OF THE MARIAN YEAR(1988). What is this “feminine genius” that the pope speaks of?

About a month after the Extraordinary Synod, the Vatican hosted a conference on male-female complimentarity. I hope Vicki can tell us what fruits to expect from it.

POPE FRANCIS CALLS FOR YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE

ARCHDIOCESE of CINCINNATI MARKS YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE CALLED BY POPE FRANCIS

RADIO MARIA USA TO BROADCAST OPENING MASS “LIVE” AT 10:30 a.m. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER  30, FROM EMMANUEL CHURCH IN DAYTON, OHIO

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati, in union with the Catholic Church around the world, will celebrate members of religious orders and others in consecrated life during the Year of Consecrated Life called by Pope Francis from Nov. 30, 2014 to Feb. 2, 2016.

The theme for the celebration in the Archdiocese, reflecting the Pope’s goals for the Year, is “Celebrating the Past, Serving in the Present, Embracing the Future.”
“Each of us has a call from God, and discovering God’s call for us will bring joy to our life,” said the Most Reverend Dennis M. Schnurr, Archbishop of Cincinnati. “Religious life / consecrated life is a viable option.”

The objectives he has approved for the Archdiocesan observance of the Year are to:

  • increase the visibility of religious life / consecrated life;
  • express appreciation;
  • highlight the joy experienced in this vocational choice;
  • educate about religious life / consecrated life.

“The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has a long and rich history of welcoming religious communities,” Archbishop Schnurr said, noting as examples that the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur are celebrating 175 years and the Poor Clare Sisters 25 years in the Archdiocese in 2015.

“Today 34 different Congregations of women and 12 different Congregations of brothers and priests minister in the Archdiocese – approximately 226 priests, 114 brothers, and 781 sisters. We are also blessed with the presence of Secular Institutes, public (Regnum Christi) and private associations (Children of Mary) of the faithful, and a Consecrated Virgin Living in the World. All of those are examples of the consecrated life.”

In addition to parish-wide observances, there will be two Archdiocesan events to mark the Year of Consecrated Life. Auxiliary Bishop Joseph R. Binzer will preside at the opening Mass at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at Emmanuel Church in Dayton which will be broadcast LIVE on Radio Maria USA. Archbishop Schnurr will preside at the closing Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016 at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains in Cincinnati.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati is the 38th largest Catholic diocese in the country, with almost 500,000 Catholics, and has the sixth largest network of Catholic schools in terms of enrollment.  The 19-county territory includes 213 parishes and 113 Catholic primary and secondary schools.

October 21, 2014 – Catholic Marriage (Part 2)

Joe continued his theme this week and rounded out his discussion highlighting Catholic Teaching and the detailed nature, beauty and glory of a Catholic Marriage.

October 21, 2014 – Fr Daniel McCaffrey

The Extraordinary Synod on the Family is now closed. For the past two weeks we have seen a minor media frenzy over the Catholic Church’s Third Synod in modern times. Actually, this one is called “Extraordinary” because it is really preparation for the “Ordinary” Synod to take place in October 2015.

The Working Document to prepare for the Synod just completed had identified three main areas of concern:
How to better preach the Gospel of the Family;
How to pastorally address various situations caused by couples in irregular relationships; and,
How to encourage married couples to be more open to life.

I have not seen commentary on anything but the middle of these three areas of concern, and there has been an abundance of that, with the secular media concluding that cohabitation, same-sex “marriage” and receiving communion by the divorced and remarried were now going to be approved by the Church, or if not approved at least seen as adding something positive to the Catholic community.

In a recent Life Site News interview*, Fr Daniel McCaffrey asked if the Synod Fathers would be dealing with the the virtually universal absence of teaching and preaching on Humanae Vitae–God’s plan for marriage and procreation. For most of his over 50 year priesthood, Father has been preaching and teaching this great encyclical of now Beatified Pope Paul VI. Father McCaffrey has found the laity wonderfully receptive to this teaching, and they often ask, “Why have we not heard this before?”

The Extraordinary Synod is now formally complete, but the dust is anything but settled. What does Father McCaffrey think will be different because of this two week gathering in the Holy City?

September 9, 2014 – Catholicism’s Rise, Fall, and Future – Russell Shaw

Russell Shaw is working on book number 22. His writing spans 50 years of focusing on the Catholic Church, primarily in the United States. American Church:The Remarkable Rise, Meteoric Fall, and Uncertain Future of Catholicism in America is his mini-history of the immediate past Century of Catholicism.

He hypothesizes about the benefits that accrued to Catholics as they were gradually melded into the predominantly Protestant American scenery. Did Catholics retain their identity or absorb a Protestant one? What was the “Elephant in the Living Room” that tipped the scales away from Catholics being a “sign of contradiction” to being a common secular American.

“Russell Shaw has lived his own life of Christian witness with uncommon integrity, humility, and keen intelligence. His skill animates every page of American Church. He has captured the story of the Church in the United States with honesty and love, and it’s a privilege to call him my friend.” + Charles J. Chaput, O. F. M. Cap. Archbishop of Philadelphia.

August 28, 2014 – Patrick Madrid and Blythe Kaufman

Ken talks with Patrick Madrid author of Why Be Catholic? : Ten Answers to a Very Important Question (Image) Patrick Madrid learned a great deal about why people leave Catholicism and why others stay. His book offers a deeply personal, fact-based, rationale for why everyone should be Catholic or at least consider the Catholic Church. Patrick’s book is available at: www.imagecatholicbooks.com To learn more about Patrick visit: www.patrickmadrid.com The Children’s Rosary is a lay prayer movement for children. August 12, 2014 – JD Author of Drafted To Serve

I was in Chicago for the Catholic Marketing Network Trade Show. By coincidence, directly across the aisle from my One More Soul display was author “JD” giving away free copies of his new book Drafted To Serve. Drafted . . . is a book about miracles–not the typical physical healing miracles that drive the canonization process. No, these”miracles” COULD be degraded to mere “coincidences” were they not so astonishing and so common. They are a result of JD being financially strapped and desperate to capitalize on Pope John Paul II’s World Youth Day VIII visit to Denver 21 years ago. JD was quite regularly in hopeless situations, praying for JP II for help–and getting it.

I was at WYD VIII with my friend Jim Vititow and 7 young people. It was an incredible “pilgrimage” that Drafted To Serve gave me an opportunity to relive . John Paul II coined the phrases “Culture of Life” and “Culture of Death” and popularized their use (as in this program’s title “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America”). Who would deny JPII’s impact in leading us to a Culture of Life–a still elusive fact, but a victory guaranteed by a faithful God. I’m thinking especially of his Gospel of Life and Theology of the Body.

JD is a Colorado native, married with two sons, a service disabled Vietnam War veteran, having served five tours on swift boats. He graduated from the University of Denver with a dual degree in finance and real estate and currently owns a nationwide business in Denver. Drafted To Serve is his first book, written during three years of nearly full-time effort, which he felt compelled to complete in order to tell the world what happened when Pope John Paul II came to Denver in 1993.

JD and his buddy TP originally agreed to tell no one but the Catholic Church of the events that had taken place. They felt that due to the incredible nature of the story neither wished to step into the spotlight and have their lives turned upside down by the attention the story was certain to generate.

July 08, 2014

Responding to a proposed “Satanic Black Mass” in Oklahoma this coming September, Matthew takes the opportunity to share the Catholic truth about the angels (faithful and fallen) according to Scripture and Tradition.

June 26, 2014 – Timothy Gabrielli

Guest host Spencer Hargadon talks with Timothy Gabrielli author of Confirmation: How a Sacrament of God’s Grace Became All about Us (Liturgical Press) What are we doing when we confirm teenagers? Why is the religious education of teenagers so perplexing? Why is confirmation often a moment of graduation” out of parish life? Confirmation, more than any other sacrament, has interacted with secular culture to give rise to these kinds of pastoral challenges. At the same time, confirmation has, over the course of the twentieth century, become a sacramental stamp of approval for various Catholic renewal movements. The cultural shifts of the last century have led to various theological themes for confirmation, creating a crisis of meaning today. Is confirmation a personal choice for faith, or is it the deepening of an ongoing relationship with the Divine? Timothy Gabrielli gives us a fresh approach for addressing these pressing questions. Tim’s book is available at: www.litpress.org

June 10, 2014

Continuing his presentation of the Holy Eucharist, Matthew unpacks what every lay Catholic needs to know about the connection between the Last Supper and the Holy Mass.

June 10, 2014 – Robert Muckle

Robert Muckle is one of those long-time Pro-Life warriors that will be in the battle until we win or he goes to heaven. He has served CT Right to Life Corp for almost 40 years, holding offices and organizing the annual Waterbury bus to the March for Life all of that time.

Connecticut has played an important role in the effort to keep contraception illegal and thus slowing the march toward legalized abortion. Eventually it was the legal tangles in CT over their Comstock Laws that paved the way for Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton. It seems ironic that efforts to prevent contraceptive access would eventually provide the “privacy” legal arguments that would lead to the legalization of abortion on demand throughout the US.

On June 21st Waterbury Catholics (and hopefully others) will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of closing the Waterbury Birth Control Clinic on June 19th, 1939. How will they celebrate? What does this celebration portend for the future of the Catholic Church in America? Has America’s culture of death reached its zenith?

June 03, 2014

In keeping with the Easter Season, Matthew examines the Catholic Church’s beliefs and practices regarding the reception of Holy Communion.

May 27, 2014 – Father Habiger

Father Habiger is a Benedictine priest in residence at Benedictine College in Atchison Kansas. Since 2003 he has been a full-time member of NFP Outreach where his focus is primarily upon promoting God’s Plan for Marriage and Spousal Love, which includes counter acting the contraceptive and sterilization culture. He does this through parish missions, NFP parish weekends, Theology of the Body seminars, and consultations with priests and bishops during “clergy days”. Father Matthew has his PhD in Moral Theology from the Catholic University of America. He is very well qualified to address the challenging topic of “conscience”.

If you want to do some homework for today’s program, you can read about conscience in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) beginning with: http://www.usccb.org

1776 “Deep within his conscience man discovers a law which he has not laid upon himself but which he must obey. Its voice, ever calling him to love and to do what is good and to avoid evil, sounds in his heart at the right moment…. For man has in his heart a law inscribed by God…. His conscience is man’s most secret core and his sanctuary. There he is alone with God whose voice echoes in his depths.”

For many people–and clergy are no exception, conscience poses a difficult subject. The CCC says that we must obey our conscience. BUT, we must have a “well-formed” conscience (CCC, 1783), or we will be led astray by the evil one as a consequence of Original Sin.

Conscience poses a very serious challenge for many Catholics in their discernment about sexual morality, particularly in addressing contraception, sterilization, artificial reproductive technologies, and Natural Family Planning.

May 21, 2014 – Cure for the Common Core

With mounting concern over the Common Core State Standards, what are parents and teachers to do? Consider God’s providence. God founded his Church on Peter (Mt 16: 18) to aid our journey through life to heaven. In the 12th Century, the Church was instrumental in fostering education, and through its essential support, the university system was developed from what began as “Cathedral schools” (1). Paris and Bologna were the first two. Today, there are great alternatives to Common Core. These include a classical curriculum and a [non-Common Core] Christian education. What comprises a classical curriculum? How is this curriculum in harmony with Christian formation? These questions are discussed and draw from “What is a Classical Education”, by Peter Kreeft, and published in “The Classical Teacher” magazine, Spring 2009. For the complete article, see: www.memoriapress.com.

May 20, 2014

Matthew has long equated the Catholic lay apostolate with the ideal of chivalry. On this program, Matthew reviews how this is reflected in the Vatican II document Apostolicum Actuositatem.

May 07, 2014 – Fr. John McDonald

Christine Watkins interviews Fr. John McDonald, director of Catholic education at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Birmingham, president of John Carroll Catholic High School, and associate pastor at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church–ie. busy! Fr. John speaks of the immeasurable value of the inner life and how to cultivate it in both adults and in the youth. In April of 2005, while Fr. John was still in the seminary, he was called upon to read the second reading during the funeral mass of Pope John Paul II. It was at this moment when the whole world heard his special South Alabama accent.

April 40, 2014 – Julie Dortch Cragon about the importance of The Theotokos

April 24, 2014 – David Pierre, Jr.

Ken talks with David Pierre author of Double Standard: Abuse Scandals and the Attack on the Catholic Church, and Catholic Priests Falsely Accused: The Facts, The Fraud, The Stories. Dave Pierre is one of the country’s leading observers of the media’s coverage of the Catholic Church abuse narrative. Yes, Catholic priests terribly abused minors, and bishops failed to stop the unspeakable harm. That is an undeniable truth. Nothing justifies such an evil. However, major media outlets are unfairly attacking the Catholic Church, and these two compelling books have the shocking evidence to prove it. Double Standard provides background and Catholic Priests Falsely Accused has more specific stories. Both are excellent. March 27, 2014 – Fr. Robert Hater

Ken talks with Fr. Robert Hater author of Common Sense Catechesis: Lessons from the Past, Road Map for the Future (Our Sunday Visitor) Fr. Hater develops his common sense approach within a historical perspective that follows the lines of his own journey of faith. He traces his catechetical story from the 1950’s to the present time. As he tells his story, he takes the best from the memorization approach of the early 20th century, the use of the Baltimore Catechism, the insights of Vatican II, the chaotic period of the late 60s and 70s, the experiential approach of the 80s and 90s, including the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, the systematic approach of the 90s until today, and finally, The Catechism of the Catholic Church. You can purchase Fr. Robert’s book at: www.osv.com

March 6, 2014 – Ryan Topping

Ken talks with Ryan Topping author of Rebuilding Catholic Culture: How the Catechism Can Shape Our Common Life (Sophia Institute Press) Rarely does a book come along that so succinctly explains the decline of modern culture, articulates a defense of the Church’s teachings, and offers a hope-filled path for building a civilization grounded in Catholic truth. In these pages, Dr. Ryan Topping does all three, pulling back the curtain on the false philosophies of the secularists and showing that in the West today the most formidable threat to freedom is not failing economies or Islam, but secularism. You can purchase Ryan’s book at: http://shop.sophiainstitute.com

February 18, 2014 – Fr. Sauppe

Fr Sauppe’s 2013 article about the demographic winter that forced closing of his parish school received lots of attention because it brought focus to a national problem affecting most communities and the Church–not enough children. See www.onemoresoul.com/pdfs.
If the AVERAGE woman in a country consistently births fewer than 2.1 children in her life time, the country’s population will eventually decline. This population shrinkage is already in process throughout Europe.

In “The Church in the Modern World as I lived It”, The Bellarmine Forum (Winter 2013), Father shares his experience as a seminarian and priest/pastor in the post Vatican Council II Catholic Church. His experience verifies that some of the good of VCII was sabotaged by efforts to hitch change agendas to VCII’s call to open the windows and let fresh air into the Church. Unfortunately, the infiltration included a “progressive wind” and the “smoke of Satan” that joined other events to weaken the Church in modern times.

Fr Sauppe is taking steps to blunt these evil forces and turn his small part of Church back to a renewed sense of God in the liturgy and the family. In this effort, he draws encouragement from the 1985 Extraordinary Synod on “The Twentieth Anniversary of the Conclusion of the Second Vatican Council”.

Since Father is also a Mariologist (working toward the STD at the International Marian Research Institute), I can ask him Mary is guiding the Church in the Modern World.

June 26, 2013 – An Unexpected Discovery: A Young Man’s Journey to the Catholic Church

In this program I interview a young Christian, Jared, with a fascinating story. He is considering entering the Catholic Church! His story begins when, at 17 years old, he wondered what he believed about God and why. He first searched the roots of his Protestant faith, but this increased his concerns. He did not understand why some of the teachings of the founders, like Calvin and Luther, were no longer part of his denomination’s practice. Discouraged by not finding satisfactory answers, he studied some Eastern religions, only to discover in that process a thread that would lead him to the last place he expected: the Catholic Church! Now, he is devoting himself to studying the Catholic Church as the one Church founded by Our Lord. With a conviction he attributes to Our Lady, Jared hopes to enter the Catholic Church as soon as possible.

The Great Omission – August 22, 2012

As Christians we know that Jesus was sent by the Father in the power of the Holy Spirit to evangelize a fallen world with the Gospel of salvation. During his earthly ministry Jesus called and formed his disciples to join him in carrying out that very mission of making disciples of all nations. This holy obligation and sacred duty was not limited to the apostles but was intended for all believers and followers of Jesus Christ, regardless of their state in life. Sadly, not all Catholics recognize that by virtue of their baptism and Confirmation, they have been anointed and appointed to evangelize. Unfortunately for many, the “Great Commission” has become “The Great Omission”. In this episode of “Making Disciples” we will outline a basic theology of evangelization and begin to explore the reasons why so many Catholics fail to recognize their call to share Christ with others.

2012 Summer Reading List

This list was inspired by a listener who asked if I had a Top 10 Summer Reading List. We often think of summer reading as light, enjoyable books that we take on vacation or read while sitting on the patio. With that in mind, this list is heavy on fiction and uplifting personal stories. The list is in no particular order.

1. Pillar & Bulwark by Marcus Grodi
This is the long awaited sequel to How Firm a Foundation, the fictional account of a protestant pastor’s path to the Catholic Church. Full disclosure – I have yet to read this book and it is on my summer reading list. I have been assured by someone, who’s opinion I trust, that it is even better than How Firm a Foundation

2. Why Men Hate Going to Church by David Murrow
A completely updated edition to this best selling book was published in 2011. David Murrow is an evangelical Christian who has studied this serious problem occurring across all Christian denominations. You may not agree with everything in his book, but I guarantee it will generate good conversations. This is a must read by everyone involved in parish faith formation.

3. The Shadow of the Bear: A Fairy Tale Retold by Regina Domain
This is the first volume of Regina’s Fairy Tale Novels series. This is a great book for a mom, aunt or grandmother to read and then pass on to daughters, nieces and granddaughters. There are five volumes in the series so they make great gifts for teen age readers. This book is really for girls, a good choice for boys (and girls will like to too) is Catholic, Reluctantly by Christian M. Frank. This is the first volume of the John Paul II High series, and Regina Domain is the editor for the series.

4. The Father’s Tale by Michael D. O’Brien
I have enjoyed all of O’Brien’s novels, and this is his most recent. It may look like a daunting read at over 1000 pages, but you will enjoy every page.

5. Recovering Faith – Stories of Catholics Who Came Home by Lorene Duquin
In this book you will find the stories of well know Catholics such as actor Martin Sheen, Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas, best selling author Dean Kootz and Father John Fletcher who many of our listeners will know because of his programs on Radio Maria.

6. Be a Man! by Father Larry Richards
This is a great book for men. If you have ever heard a talk by the every popular Father Larry Richards you will hear that same voice in his writing. If you have already read this book, then read his latest titled Surrender!

7. Atheist to Catholic Stories of Conversion by Rebecca Vitz Cherico
I admit to being a fan of conversion story books. This one is very unique in that it is the stories of former atheists.

8. The Complete Stories by Flannery O’Connor
Flannery O’Connor is a giant in Catholic literature. In her short life, this woman from Georgia created some of the most memorial characters in fiction. She has influenced and inspired generations of writers.

9. unPlanned by Abby Johnson
This is the best selling true story of Abby Johnson’s dramatic conversion from director of an abortion clinic, to outspoken ProLife advocate.

10. Fatherless by Brian Gail
This is the first volume of Brian Gail’s American Tragedy in Trilogy series. The story follows the conversion of fictional priest Father John Sweeney and members of his parish. This dramatic series has become a Catholic favorite.
