Lord Jesus, you who love us and have freed us from our sins with your Blood, I adore you, I bless you and I consecrate myself to you with living faith.
By the help of your Spirit, I desire to make all my existence, animated by the memory of your Precious Blood, into a faithful service of the will of God, for the coming of your Kingdom.
Through the Blood which you shed for the remission of sins, purify me of all sin and renew my heart, so that the image of a new person, created in justice and holiness may become ever more evident in me.
By your Blood, which is the sign of reconciliation with God and reconciliation with each other, make me a malleable instrument of brotherly love and communion.
By the power of your Blood, supreme proof of your mercy, give me the courage to love you and to love my brothers and sisters, even to the point of offering my life.
Jesus, my Redeemer, help me to carry your cross every day, in order that a drop of my blood, united with yours, may contribute to the redemption of the world. O Divine Blood, which together with your grace gives life to the Mystical Body, making me a living stone in the Church.
Give me an ardent desire for Christian unity. Infuse my heart with a great zeal for the salvation of my brother and sisters. Raise up in the Church numerous missionary vocations, so that all people may know, love and serve the true God.
Most Precious Blood, sign of liberation and of new life, grant that I may persevere in faith, in hope and in love, so that, having been chosen by you, I may leave this exile and enter the promised land of Paradise, to sing my praise to you with all those whom you have chosen. Amen.
Message from the Director: Month of July Dedicated of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ
The month of July is traditionally dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. The feast of the Most Precious Blood of our Lord was instituted in 1849 by Pope Pius IX. We are reminded that by the shedding of His Precious Blood, Christ saved mankind from our sins. “For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured for many, for the forgiveness of sins.” Mt. 26:28. The Precious Blood of Jesus cleanses us from our sins. In the Sacrament of Penance, we are forgiven of our sins through the absolution of the priest. How powerful it is that we are restored to the supernatural life of grace.
The early Fathers say that the Church was born from the pierced side of Christ, and that the sacraments were brought forth through His Blood. “But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once, there came out blood and water.” Mt. Jn. 19:34. The Blood from the pierced side of Christ symbolizes the Precious Blood in the Most Holy Eucharist.
We wish to invoke the Blood of Jesus on ourselves, the sick and suffering, and the whole family of Radio Maria. We ask the Lord to protect us from all evil. The Blood of Jesus has the power to protect us, and lead us to the life of grace in Christ, in particular through the Sacraments. We ask the Lord to wash us clean in our mission of Radio Maria. We want to be faithful to our calling as a family, to our identity of a Radio that brings prayer, Christian and Human formation, News and Music in the lives of people.
It is Our Lady’s Radio and she wants to continue to lead us to Her Son Jesus who has poured out his Precious Blood for us.

You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?
Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers only,
what is unusual about that?
Do not the pagans do the same?

God seeks our highest good and teaches us to seek the greatest good of others, even those who hate and abuse us. Our love for others, even those who are ungrateful and selfish towards us, must be marked by the same kindness and mercy which God has shown to us. It is easier to show kindness and mercy when we can expect to benefit from doing so. How much harder when we can expect nothing in return. Our prayer for those who do us ill both breaks the power of revenge and releases the power of love to do good in the face of evil.
How can we possibly love those who cause us harm or ill-will? With God all things are possible. He gives power and grace to those who believe and accept the gift of the Holy Spirit. His love conquers all, even our hurts, fears, prejudices and griefs. Only the cross of Jesus Christ can free us from the tyranny of malice, hatred, revenge, and resentment and gives us the courage to return evil with good. Such love and grace has power to heal and to save from destruction. Do you know the power of Christ’s redeeming love and mercy?
God gives us every good gift in Jesus Christ so that we may not lack anything we need to do his will and to live as his sons and daughters (2 Peter 1:3). He knows our weakness and sinfulness better than we do. And he assures us of his love, mercy, and grace to follow in his ways. Do you want to grow in your love for God and for your neighbor? Ask the Holy Spirit to change and transform you in the image of the Father that you may walk in the joy and freedom of the Gospel.
“Lord Jesus, your love brings freedom and pardon. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and set my heart ablaze with your love that nothing may make me lose my temper, ruffle my peace, take away my joy, nor make me bitter towards anyone.”

Seeking The Face of Christ
“Such is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob” (Psalm 24:6 – RSV)
There are a number of different devotions we might focus on as we enter this most Holy Week of the Church calendar, but it might be good for us to reverently reconsider the very image our Savior chose to leave us, that of His own Beautiful Face yet Sorrowful Face.
It is good for us to recall the sacrifice of great Love that our Lord made for us. It has been said that too much familiarity with this Holy Season can tend to diminish our appreciation of the measure of Christ’s love reflected in own His Holy Countenance. It is good for us to recall that it was at the beginning of His passion that our Lord experienced one of the more painful events He would endure; it ,was not simply the betrayal of one of His own disciples, but that fact that Judas Iscariot chose to betray our Lord by placing a kiss on His cheek.
The Church has a long history of devotion to the Holy Face going all the way back to Veronica’s singular act of courage and compassion, when she wiped the bloodied face of Jesus, forever preserving for us the painful image of His sacrifice and love. What similar act of compassion and even courage might we offer to our Eucharistic Lord, an act that can help to console our Lord in our own time, when we still witness so much blasphemy and so many offenses against His Church, His Mystical Body, and by consequence, His Holy Face.
In his Encyclical Ecclesia de Eucharistia, (The Eucharist) Saint John Paul II drew the eyes of the Church to the Face of Christ in the sacrament of the Eucharist.
“To contemplate Christ involves being able to recognize him wherever he manifests himself, in His many forms of presence, but above all in the living sacrament of his Body and Blood. The Church draws her life from Christ in the Eucharist; by Him she is fed and by Him she is enlightened. The Eucharist is both a mystery of faith and a “mystery of light.” Whenever the Church celebrates the Eucharist, the faithful can in some way relive the experience of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus: “their eyes were opened and they recognized him” (Lk 24:31). . . . I cannot let this Holy Thursday (2003) pass without halting before the “Eucharistic face” of Christ and pointing out with new force to the Church the centrality of the Eucharist.
Perhaps we could make our own act of courage and compassion this week and find an hour to visit our Church and just spend some time contemplating the Face of Christ in the Eucharist. New Host For Thursday’s Catechism Hour
We’d like to announce a new priest who has joined the Radio Maria family. On Thursday, March 12, 2015, Fr. Richard Bretone will come onboard, hosting Thursday’s Catechism program. Fr. Bretone has been a Roman Catholic priest of the Brooklyn Diocese for 25 years. He is the Founder and Spiritual Director of Eternal Flame of Hope Ministries; part-time associate pastor of St. Patrick’s Church in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn; part-time Chaplain at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York; and, Director of Heaven’s Embrace (a 46 acre retreat property of the Eternal Flame of Hope Ministries). Fr. Bretone has diverse interests, including teaching courses for The Diocesan Pastoral Institute on Vatican II, and the New Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church. An artist, his art work has been featured in articles in The Tablet, and he participated in the inaugural art show of A.S.A.P. in Soho, New York. He has given Days of Recollection and Retreats for Religious, Deacons and the Laity throughout his local and surrounding dioceses, and has also conducted Healing Masses. Praying to Find Rest and Consolation
Even a cursory review of the daily news can lead one to a sense of anxiety or fear or even despair. These are challenging times. It is important to know how to respond in difficult circumstances. The best models we have for this response are always the Saints. In the most difficult times of our lives it is very important for us to take some time and allow our prayer life to provide us rest and consolation.
This is what John the Beloved Apostle did even as he struggled to respond to the most difficult news he had ever heard. On the evening of the last supper, when our Lord told the Apostles what was about to happen, John could have chosen to react in a number of ways.
He could have fallen victim to fear and anxiety, he could have decided to run to the leaders of Israel and beg for them to spare our Lord, he could have stood on a street corner bearing a sign which described the injustice of it all – St. John the Beloved did none of these things.
He chose instead to simply rest in the Bosom of the Lord. “Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.” (John 13:23)
Of course, scripture tells us that this is also what our Lord does. “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him” (John 1:18)
St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi was an Italian Carmelite Mystic who lived from the mid 1500’s to the early 1600’s. She is reported to have had a number of conversations, while in ecstasy, with God the Father and the Lord Jesus.
During one of these conversations God the Father revealed to her the nature of the relationship between the Father and the Son. The Father shared that the Son actually rests within the Father’s bosom, and the Son Contemplates the Father. This might seem strange on first hearing it. It is helpful to have some sense of what this word Contemplation means: “to admire something and think about it.”
Of course it is not difficult to imagine admiring the image we may have created of God the Father, but do we spend enough time just thinking about God, about His beauty, His nature, His Blessings?
God the Father told Mary Magdalene de Pazzi that when Jesus, His Son contemplated the Father He looked at Him with an admiring contemplation. He said that this was a “contemplation of admiration, of love, of God’s purity, of the Father’s generosity, of His mercy, of His justice, of His goodness, of His wisdom, of might, of truth of union and of eternity.”
Do we ever think about prayer this way, as a simple contemplation, a simple look, a simple resting in the Bosom of the Father. Any one of these attributes of God the Father would be worthy of a great deal of our admiration and worth thinking about for some time.
Of course these attributes were true of Jesus as well, but in order to pray effectively or rest in the Bosom of our Lord, we do not have to even think about these aspects of God’s nature.
The model of prayer John the Beloved provides us is the same one that our Lord Himself employed, simply to rest in the Bosom of the Father.
The next time you set aside time for prayer, see if you can just try resting in the Bosom of the Lord, or contemplating the Love which God the Father has for us. A good way to do this is to simply rest in the bosom of the Lord, try to practice silence, try to be so silent in fact that you can hear the Lord’s heartbeat. -Mark Danis

Dear friends, we are now at the beginning of a new year, a blank page of the human history to be written, but also and especially of our own life. Faith invites us to look at the future through the light of hope for the world was saved and Jesus is alive among us, with the invincible power of his love. The presence of the Risen Christ makes us certain that evil will not win and that the last word is the one of good, life and truth.
The time given us by God is a precious gift to be well spent and not wasted. Every passing moment will never come back. It’s up to us, through daily fidelity, to write words of eternity. The first word to be printed in our hearts with indelible characters is “conversion“. Time is given us to let us know, love and serve God. This is the only real purpose and goal of our lives.
To be converted means to put God first. Jesus must be our Love, our Teacher, and our Guide. Let us fix our sight towards the goal of eternity and, day by day, let us advance on the path of salvation and joy. Let us walk together with Jesus and Mary and the whole Church, in earth and in heaven.
Radio Maria is a voice calling for conversion. So many of you could bear witness. This is its identity and its reason for existing. It’s a voice sounding like a new Pentecost, in a concert made of peoples and languages, thanks to the missionary spirit animating it. Let us proceed together with confidence in this wonderful path.

October 29, 2014 – Do not let your hearts be troubled; believe in God
In difficult circumstances, do we ask enough questions of Our Lord? In John 14, three of his Apostles ask for greater clarification. We also may do this in our challenging circumstances. However, the peace that Our Lord wishes to bring to our hearts may more substantially come from our belief in God. To better encourage us, Jesus in John 14 gives us several assurances. He reminds us that “in my Father’s house there are many rooms”, that “I will come again and will take you to myself”, and that “if you ask anything in my name, I will do it”. This is all in the same chapter that begins “Do not let your hearts be troubled”. By believing ever more firmly in God, we may find that when things do not work out the way we want them to, we can count on God to bring some greater good.

The Extraordinary Synod on the Family is now closed. For the past two weeks we have seen a minor media frenzy over the Catholic Church’s Third Synod in modern times. Actually, this one is called “Extraordinary” because it is really preparation for the “Ordinary” Synod to take place in October 2015.
The Working Document to prepare for the Synod just completed had identified three main areas of concern:
How to better preach the Gospel of the Family;
How to pastorally address various situations caused by couples in irregular relationships; and,
How to encourage married couples to be more open to life.
I have not seen commentary on anything but the middle of these three areas of concern, and there has been an abundance of that, with the secular media concluding that cohabitation, same-sex “marriage” and receiving communion by the divorced and remarried were now going to be approved by the Church, or if not approved at least seen as adding something positive to the Catholic community.
In a recent Life Site News interview*, Fr Daniel McCaffrey asked if the Synod Fathers would be dealing with the the virtually universal absence of teaching and preaching on Humanae Vitae–God’s plan for marriage and procreation. For most of his over 50 year priesthood, Father has been preaching and teaching this great encyclical of now Beatified Pope Paul VI. Father McCaffrey has found the laity wonderfully receptive to this teaching, and they often ask, “Why have we not heard this before?”
The Extraordinary Synod is now formally complete, but the dust is anything but settled. What does Father McCaffrey think will be different because of this two week gathering in the Holy City?

We must always remember that mortal sin (our souls are separated entirely from God) and Sanctifying Grace are incompatible! Living a life in a state of Grace is indispensable for growth in holiness! These are huge stakes, and eternity is on the line. Now is the time to seek the paths of Grace and reap the gifts Our loving Lord has waiting for us.

Jason and Linda parent 5 children; Jason has a BA in Secondary Education from Purdue, and an MA in Theology from Franciscan University (Steubenville); he is Headmaster for Lumen Christi Catholic School in Indianapolis; and author of Called to Give Life, A Primer on the Blessings of Children and the Harm of Contraception.
Called to Give Life is of particular interest now because Pope Francis is hosting a Synod of bishops on Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelization–actually two Synods–October 2014 and October 2015. These Synods are a response to the Survey Questions (and answers they generated) sent all over the Catholic world in the latter months of 2013. Answers were compiled to determine what challenges families were facing in this time. After collating thousands of responses, the Synod organizers published a “Working Document” that summarized the world-wide responses and determined the questions the Synods sought to address:
How to preach the Gospel of the Family;
How to deal with pastoral issues arising at this time; and
How to promote openness to children in Catholic marriages.
Why is Jason’s book so important now? Because Called to Give Life answers these questions simply, pastorally and logically in a little over 200 pages. It lays out the Foundations for the Church’s teaching that contraception is always intrinsically evil, and thus can never be permitted, and it explains why the Church considers children to be the Supreme Gift of/to marriage.

Father Habiger is a Benedictine priest in residence at Benedictine College in Atchison Kansas. Since 2003 he has been a full-time member of NFP Outreach where his focus is primarily upon promoting God’s Plan for Marriage and Spousal Love, which includes counter acting the contraceptive and sterilization culture. He does this through parish missions, NFP parish weekends, Theology of the Body seminars, and consultations with priests and bishops during “clergy days”. Father Matthew has his PhD in Moral Theology from the Catholic University of America. He is very well qualified to address the challenging topic of “conscience”.

1776 “Deep within his conscience man discovers a law which he has not laid upon himself but which he must obey. Its voice, ever calling him to love and to do what is good and to avoid evil, sounds in his heart at the right moment…. For man has in his heart a law inscribed by God…. His conscience is man’s most secret core and his sanctuary. There he is alone with God whose voice echoes in his depths.”
For many people–and clergy are no exception, conscience poses a difficult subject. The CCC says that we must obey our conscience. BUT, we must have a “well-formed” conscience (CCC, 1783), or we will be led astray by the evil one as a consequence of Original Sin.
Conscience poses a very serious challenge for many Catholics in their discernment about sexual morality, particularly in addressing contraception, sterilization, artificial reproductive technologies, and Natural Family Planning.

I am very excited to be having Bishop Morlino as our Guest on “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America” this week. Bishop Morlino is only the 4th bishop of Madison, it being a fairly young (68 years) diocese comprising 11 counties in SW Wisconsin.
Bishop Morlino has undergraduate and graduate degrees in Philosophy, and a doctorate in Moral Theology with specialization in fundamental moral theology and bioethics. His education and training have been steeped in the Jesuit tradition which often means a life-time in academia. Since 2005, Bishop Morlino has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of The National Catholic Bioethics Center (NCBC) which conducts research, consultation, publishing and education to promote human dignity in health care and the life sciences.
As a Jesuit Bishop Morlino has a special kinship with Pope Francis. As you may already know, Pope Francis has called an Extra Ordinary Synod on the family for October 2014 to address the many challenges families face today, and how the Church can better respond to those challenges. The Diocese of Madison has taken the Pope’s questions from the Synod Preparatory Document very seriously by seeking answers to these questions from a great variety of Catholics.
Bishop Morlino is very grateful to God for having 32 seminarians, which is outstanding for a diocese of 277,000 Catholics and 139 parishes.
I really enjoy interviewing bishops. I am always in awe of their position as Vicar of Christ for their dioceses and all the responsibilities that a bishop carries.

The recent canonization of Saint John Paul II has drawn new attention to his “Theology of the Body” and its impact on the Culture of Life. His biographer, George Weigel has said that TotB will impact every teaching of the Creed and it will take decades to fully comprehend its influence on the faith and the faithful.
Damon Owens left an impressive career in the business arena to devote his life to full-time work in marriage and family ministry. He has served as Natural Family Planning and Marriage Preparation Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Newark, founded two non-profit organizations (New Jersey Natural Family Planning Association and Joy-Filled Marriage New Jersey), and led initiatives for various pro-life and pro-family organizations such as the New Jersey Catholic Bishops Conference, The Children First Foundation, and Life Education and Resource Network (L.E.A.R.N.), the largest African-American, pro-life ministry in the country. Damon is a certified speaker and has been lecturing for the Theology of the Body Institute since 2005. In December of 2011, Damon was named the Executive Director of the Theology of the Body Institute. He and his wife, Melanie, have been married for 18 years and have eight children.
Many of our listeners are familiar with the Theology of the Body because of Christopher West’s presentations that have popularized TotB throughout the USA and in dozens of other countries in the short span of 10 years.

Please join us again this week with Fr Apostoli as we continue last week’s very interesting program about Our Lady of Fatima’s warnings and promises, specifically that Russia would be converted and there would be a period of peace in the world.
After Pope Blessed John Paul II completed the consecration in 1984, as Mary had requested in her appearance to Lucia in 1929, it did seem that great changes were taking place in Russia, including the complete abandonment of Communism, and a renewed receptivity to religion. And more recently, President Putin has been reducing access to abortion, eliminating promotion of homosexuality, and encouraging women to have children. Are Russian designs on the Ukraine a step backward? Did Mary change her mind?
This week we will focus on the Fatima story, the lives of the three children Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta. What were they like? Was their life idyllic or difficult? What kind of sufferings did they experience and what was their attitude toward suffering? What of Mary’s messages is still applicable to us in 21st Century America?
The children were shown a vision of Hell which affected them deeply. Should we take heed or trust in the mercy of God?
Also, this week a miracle has been accepted as due to the intercession of Archbishop Fulton Sheen, which will advance the cause for his canonization. Father Apostoli is vice-postulator for Archbishop Sheen so Father must be very pleased that his work is bearing fruit. I’ll ask him about that.

Fr Sauppe’s 2013 article about the demographic winter that forced closing of his parish school received lots of attention because it brought focus to a national problem affecting most communities and the Church–not enough children. See www.onemoresoul.com/pdfs.
If the AVERAGE woman in a country consistently births fewer than 2.1 children in her life time, the country’s population will eventually decline. This population shrinkage is already in process throughout Europe.
In “The Church in the Modern World as I lived It”, The Bellarmine Forum (Winter 2013), Father shares his experience as a seminarian and priest/pastor in the post Vatican Council II Catholic Church. His experience verifies that some of the good of VCII was sabotaged by efforts to hitch change agendas to VCII’s call to open the windows and let fresh air into the Church. Unfortunately, the infiltration included a “progressive wind” and the “smoke of Satan” that joined other events to weaken the Church in modern times.
Fr Sauppe is taking steps to blunt these evil forces and turn his small part of Church back to a renewed sense of God in the liturgy and the family. In this effort, he draws encouragement from the 1985 Extraordinary Synod on “The Twentieth Anniversary of the Conclusion of the Second Vatican Council”.
Since Father is also a Mariologist (working toward the STD at the International Marian Research Institute), I can ask him Mary is guiding the Church in the Modern World.

Let us not underestimate the power of the Holy Spirit. In 1 Samuel 16, we see that “the Spirit of the Lord came upon David”. We also know that David, in this “Spirit of God” and without armor, defeats a mighty warrior who is heavily armed. Is this not remarkable? In 2 Timothy 1, the Spirit is given to Timothy by the “laying on of hands”. Afterward, Timothy receives the spirit of power and love and self-control. In our busy preparations for Christmas, even our spiritual preparations, we can sometimes forget the most significant theological aspect of Christ’s birth, the Incarnation of God into our human lives. During this conversation Frances and Mark discuss some interesting historical facts regarding the use of the term ‘Incarnation’ in the history of the Carmelite Order. They then go on to speak about an interesting phrase in a Prayer by Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity, which she wrote to the Trinity. In that well know prayer she asks: “Consuming Fire! Spirit of Love! Descend within me and reproduce in me, as it were, another incarnation of the Word that I may be to Him another humanity wherein He may renew His mystery.” This is a prayer very rich in meaning, especially as each of us is called to become another Christ and to Incarnate His life into our own. In this pre-Christmas conversation, Mark and Frances discuss how we can work to prepare ourselves to receive this ‘Incarnation’ in our own souls.

August 6, 2013 – Bishop Thomas John Paprocki
I am always especially excited to be able to interview one of Christs’ Vicars here on Earth. Bishop Paprocki is the “Ordinary” for the Diocese of Springfield, the capital of Illinois, and by no means is he”ordinary”. He is probably in the best physical condition of all the US bishops. He runs marathons (18 and counting) and still plays ice hockey (goalie) on an amateur team.
He has written a book–Holy Goals for Body and Soul–that extols the virtues and demands of athletics and their application to life. It is loaded with interesting stories from sports and their practical lessons for everyday life. I highly recommend it as a gift for any athlete or sports enthusiast.
The goalie is the last line of defense, and courage is essential. So it is with a bishop, as he is the final authority for his diocese and when something is wrong, he has the responsibility to address the problem. Bishop Paprocki has taken the heat for his 2012 pastoral letter on a Catholic’s responsibility to take his/er faith into the voting booth, and he has spoken clearly in defense of marriage.
Bishop Paprocki is also a lawyer and quite willing to offer guidance to the Illinois State legislature and other state officials in Springfield. Illinois does not have a strong pro-life/family reputation [ranked 36th by Americans United for Life–www.aul.org/states/illinois], so some recent decisions are surprising. Does he see “evolving”? Is he a stimulant for evolution in Illinois?

We all use the word faith quite often and believe we understand what it means, but do we really understand the deeper meaning of faith as it relates to journey toward God. Mountain was a symbol of prayer and of God’s presence. When Jesus Christ scaled the mountain to elect his twelve Apostles, he made such election a prayer event. We saw this pattern repeated in the early Church as they elected other Apostles and deacons. This manner of elections seems to be lost in modern election rigging, cronyism, and nepotism. Hence, public office is fraught with less God-gearing service people. What happens to the method of Christ and the Apostolic style?

In this program I interview a young Christian, Jared, with a fascinating story. He is considering entering the Catholic Church! His story begins when, at 17 years old, he wondered what he believed about God and why. He first searched the roots of his Protestant faith, but this increased his concerns. He did not understand why some of the teachings of the founders, like Calvin and Luther, were no longer part of his denomination’s practice. Discouraged by not finding satisfactory answers, he studied some Eastern religions, only to discover in that process a thread that would lead him to the last place he expected: the Catholic Church! Now, he is devoting himself to studying the Catholic Church as the one Church founded by Our Lord. With a conviction he attributes to Our Lady, Jared hopes to enter the Catholic Church as soon as possible.
