We have multiple Guests to share their part in “Have A Heart For The Next Generation” — local adults and young people who have a heart for preborn children and want to learn how to stop the killing of their younger brothers and sisters in the Lord. From Dayton, we are expecting Paul Coudron from Dayton Right to Life, Ryan Mahle and Katie Pfeifer, Archbishop Altar HS, and hopefully Bob and Vivian Skovgard
We will also have those from outside the Dayton community who are here to lead the event–Wendy Wright and the Scott and Kathy Heldreth family of 8 children who have traveled all the way from Texas to help educate and train the Dayton “young” and “young at heart”. Wendy is a veteran pro-life leader who “went from Bible College to jail to invitations to the White House”. She is VP of C-FAM (they monitor the often anti-life/family activities at the UN) and a former president of Concerned Women for America.
I am very eager to learn more about “Have A Heart . . .” and these totally committed people who are making a commitment to the culture of life in Dayton.
Francesca Franchina, MS Ed. talks with Susan Ferguson Director of the University of Dayton Center for Catholic Education (CCE) and Dr. Shauna Adams, Ph.D. Executive Director of the Center for Early Learning at the University of Dayton. As the University of Dayton’s School of Education and Health Sciences Faculty Liaison to The Bombeck Family Learning Center,(UD’s Early Childhood Demonstration School) Dr. Adams is an Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in child development, curriculum and assessment, early childhood research,advocacy and leadership. She is an extremely effective educator and a high creative in her numerous writing endeavors as author and co-author of educational textbooks, early childhood programs and grants. Her experience in schools as a special educator (P-12), school psychologist and working with families brings depth to everything she does. The Life Resource Center of Dayton has hosted family and team/organization fun with the Third Annual L K Hausfeld Ride For Life and Celebration to be held Saturday, July 27, 2013 on area bike paths with endurance/mileage categories from 6-100 miles; starting and finishing at The Life Centre 425 E. Findlay St., Dayton, OH. Individuals, families, and bike teams will gather in a celebration after the ride, with pizza, DQ Bars, the wonderful music of Nick Cardilino and $6000 worth of donated door prizes for the participants. Hear about the all new biking adventure: The University of Dayton to Notre Dame Right To Life Bike Ride beginning on the UD campus Wednesday, July 31st, with participants biking 240 miles with stop overs in Minster, OH Decatur, IN, Winona Lake Indiana/Grace College and ending at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
Francesca Franchina, MS Ed. converses with Sr. Leanne Jablonski, FMI (Daughters of Mary Immaculate) about THE MARIANIST ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER (MEEC) an educational ministry in the Catholic tradition, stewarding the 100 acre Mount St. John natural areas, committed to sharing and interpreting the gift of the land with others in Mary’s hope-filled spirit. MEEC advocates environmental justice as integral to sustainable living and achieves its mission through land restoration, ecological research, service, learning and educational programs. Mount St. John is a 150 acre property owned by the Society of Mary (Marianists) a Catholic community of Brothers and priests founded by Bl. Wm. Joseph Chaminade. The first people to care for this land were hunters, ancestors of the later Indian nations, for whom this was part of the sacred hunting grounds between the Miamis. Among the first Euro-Americans to arrive in this area were John Patterson, National Cash Register (NCR) Industrialist and Inventor of the cash register and the electric starter) and his family who provided the land on which The Watervliet Shaker Community was founded in 1806. The original 80 acres of Mount St. John formed part of the East Farm of the Shakers, and was purchased by the Marianists in 1910. Learn about The Wetlands, Prairie, Fields, Meadows; the more than 140 unique horticultural tree specimens including The Kentucky Coffee Tree, Japanese Pagoda Tree, Kousa Dogwood, GoldenTrain, Hardy Rubber Tree and Smoke Tree. A list of the arboretum trees is available from MEEC; also hear about the Sacred Embrace Earthwork designed by local artist Carrie Pate; Chaminade Park, The Native Plant Labyrinth with various trees and hundreds of native flowers and Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto modeled after the Lourdes Grotto in Massabielle, France constructed with 230 tons of tufa rock from the Great Lakes. How long do they gather to plan each year strategizing problem areas amenably with varying temperaments, languages and rules of engagement? Who is included in planning and membership rights; how are the ups, downs, calamities and great joys dealt with each year as they determine theme, organizational structure and amiably put together all the booths, venues and multiple staging of continuous entertainment, highlighted by a Midnight Mass for workers on Saturday night/Sunday morning. What is the mission, vision and purpose of DIFI? How are they faring with all the uproars throughout the world, does it affect DIFI in Dayton, OH? Ethnicity is alive andwell in Dayton, and growing new communities arrive and stay here! Why do they call Dayton, Ohio home now?
In this particualry program Mark invites Chris Cotter, a Secular Carmelite from the Community of Dayton Ohio, to discuss the Carmelite aspects of the Feast of Fatima. On 13 May 2013, Pope Francis consecrated his Papacy to Our Lady of Fatima. Mark and Chris explore both the significance of this event, and what Fatima means to each of us individually. Using both the Vatican Document, from The Congreagation for the Doctrine of the Faith, on the meaning of Fatima, and the writings of Sister Lucia, one of the Fatima visionaries and a Carmelite Nun, they discuss what the messages of Fatima are still communicating to all Christians today. This is a very interesting and very timely topic, and the Order of Carmel plays a significant role in helping to communicate the continual call from Our Lady of Fatima.
Michael Duricy teaches and serves as the webmaster for “The Mary Page” at the International Marian Research Institute located at the U of Dayton in Dayton, OH. We are fortunate to have him translate Mary’s words and actions into a Culture of Life language for us today.
