Christine Watkins interviews Dominican priest, Fr. Michael Fones, formerly the co-Director of the Catherine of Siena Institute, www.siena.org, which helps disciples learn of the gifts given to them by the Holy Spirit. God has spread His charisms among His people, gifts such as spiritual discernment, administration, encouragement, etc., for the building up of the Kingdom. Listen and find out what your charisms might be! Knowing one’s charisms is a helpful tool for discerning God’s will in this life.
Host Kathleen Beckman interviews Dr. Margarett Schlientz, Director of the Healing and Deliverance Conference at Mundelein Seminary, Assistant Director of the Institute for Priestly Formation at Creighton, doctor in psychiatric nursing. They discuss the spiritual battle, discernment of spirits, and what is being done to catechize bishops, priests and laity about spiritual warfare. They share why the sacramental life is so necessary as spiritual armor, and how to pray against diabolical attacks.
Discerning the Elements of One’s Personal Vocation/ The Year of Faith and the New Evangelization
In today’s show Janis and Fr. Peter discuss the topic of “Can God’s Plan Include Failure?” with a particular focus on a very specific failure—the terrible scourge of pornography that is devastating marriages and families. Nancy, our guest, tells us of the awful suffering in her own family from her father’s addiction to pornography, and how that contributed to the sexual abuse of his own daughter. Nancy shares the glorious story of how the Lord healed her and empowered her to forgive her father, and how doing so set her free and enabled her to snatch victory out of the jaws of failure through the power of the Cross. Our culture tells us in many different ways that pornography is OK. That it’s normal and natural to get wrapped up in it. But Nancy’s experience tells quite a different story. Janis and Fr. Peter draw from the wisdom of the Church as they discuss this topic and offer help to those who are struggling with an addiction to pornography and other immoral sexual activities. It really is possible to be set free! Failure is not the final word! Like Nancy, we are all called to snatch victory from the jaws of failure. No matter what our failures may have been, God still has a plan, and he’ll work it out if only we turn to him, open our hearts to the healing power of the Holy Spirit, and ask for Mary’s intercession! Join us next week for part two of “Can God’s Plan Include Failure?”
In today’s show, Janis and Fr. Peter discuss in more detail the good news that God has a beautiful and unique plan for each person’s life. Discerning God’s plan is not only possible; it is an essential part of the Christian life. This discernment process is more than discovering and choosing one’s vocation. It is at the very heart of an ongoing, intimate personal relationship with Jesus. It’s about inviting Him into the many choices we face every day. And the more we enter into God’s plan for our lives, the more effective instruments we will be for the New Evangelization which the world so desperately needs at this critical juncture. Please join us next Sunday as we discuss the theme, “Will God’s Plan Make Me Happy”.
