October 9, 2014 – David Scott and Sherry Boas

Ken talks with Scott “The Love That Made Mother Teresa: How Her Secret Visions and Dark Nights Can Help You Conquer the Slums of Your Heart” (Sophia Institute Press) and Sherry Boas “Billowtail”(Caritas Press)
In considering Mother Teresa, her private visions, and her secret sufferings, David Scott has discovered scores of early episodes and chance encounters that point to later, larger meanings. These remarkable patterns, he suggests, show that Mother Teresa’s life was choreographed from above, as if a divine script had been written for her from before her birth. Davids’s book can be purchased at: shop.sophiainstitute.com Visit his website: www.davidscottwritings.com

“Billowtail” is Sherry Boas’s first young adult fiction novel. It is the year 1214. A baby squirrel falls from the nest and lands in the passing saddlebag of a 13-year-old boy. Still blind, deaf, hairless and unable to eat solid food, there is little hope for Puttermunch’s survival. Moved by the persistent pleading of his distraught mother, a selection of five squirrels set out to find Puttermunch, launching a perilous and life-altering journey on the Way of St. James in Spain. July 16, 2014 – Fr. Fortunatus from Uganda

Francesca Franchina, MS Ed talks with visiting missionary priest Fr. Fortunatus from Uganda, who attended four years of seminary in New York. He has had his first priestly assignment ministering at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Massapequa, NY on Long Island and will be in the USA for another year . Father’s Archdiocese ministers to the many orphans left behind on the streets due to the aids epidemic who they find, feed and care for until they become of age, finish school and can look out for themselves. Foster homes are found and the children are given hope, love and food to sustain them as they continue to be educated to be able to get jobs to sustain themselves, usually in farming. Francesca and Fr. Fortunatus discuss the demographic domain of the Ugandan Diocese, Villages, Eucharistic Centers, Catechists, Small Church Communities, and the outlook of Catholicism in Uganda, which is strong in family ministry, special events and ministries offered and taken up by youth and young adults. Considering the mountainous terrain in the Diocese, lack of roads, dependable transportation and even availability of water, we get a look into the life of our Brothers and Sisters in Uganda and how Our Lord provides for all His Children through caring for us all and exhorting us to compassion and helping each other. “You shall be My Witnesses” said the Lord Jesus, ” They will know you are my disciples by your love.” Father Fortunatus shares his personal story and witness of how he was drawn to his priestly vocation and how h e is sustained daily through prayer and the ability and availability he has to help others find and grown in the knowledge and love of Our Lord Jesus.

March 25, 2014 – Kevin McCarthy

Kevin McCarthy will be our Guest on “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America” on Tuesday the 25th. Kevin was our Guest on January 7th speaking about Our Lady of America, the Immaculate Virgin. That talk is archived at radiomaria.us. The Federal Court trial he spoke of back then is finished with a very favorable outcome that still awaits some final statements by Judge William Lawrence.

Kevin is a secular lawyer and canon lawyer with a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Angelicum in Rome. He will be speaking with us on Tuesday at Noon ET about the Annunciation and Incarnation of Jesus–the most awesome event in human history. The Annunciation event is not given much attention in the USA, but is a Holyday of Obligation in some countries.

Whenever we say the Hail Mary, and as part of the Angelus, we repeat the words of the Angel Gabriel’s Announcement to Mary that she would bear the Savior in her womb. Did she realize then that she would nurse Him as an infant/toddler, and then nurture and accompany Him through the 33 years of His earthly life? She was Jesus’ most faithful disciple, even with Him at his cruel death on a cross, and burial. She surely understood that her
Son would rise from the dead on the third day. I wonder if she was waiting at the tomb with new garments and some food. Scripture does not say.

Please join us in celebrating the Annunciation and Incarnation of Jesus, at your local parish and on Radio Maria’s “The Quest for a culture of Life in America”. If you are near Dayton, meet us at St Anthony Church or Emmanuel Church–see the accompanying flier.

July 13, 2013 – What’s Wrong with Teenagers’ Diets?

Many teenagers today live on dead-food diets, eating only junk food, processed food, or baked or fried snack food. Few of them eat anything that is real, live, and fresh. Most adolescents get their fruit from fruit juice rather than from whole, enzyme-rich, fresh fruits and their vegetables from fried potatoes! In the years between 1965 and 1996, soft drink consumption in the United States increased by nearly 300%. Sadly, a 2010 study found that 40% of all the calories consumed by children aged two to eighteen years were from empty calories-that is, refined sugars and solid fat with half of those calories coming from soda, fruit drinks, dairy desserts, grain desserts, pizza, and whole milk (rather than reduced-fat milk). But true health can only be obtained through proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. When we go against the laws of God, polluting our bodies and our minds, the result is an imbalance, a dis-ease of bodily function, and that leads to a diseased body or mind. This episode will discuss the specific foods teenagers are consuming, while offering healthy alternatives.
