September 04, 2014 – Patricia Treece

Ken talks with Patricia Treece, author of “Nothing Short of a Miracle: God’s Healing Power in Modern Saints” (Sophia Institute Press). You’ll read vivid but sober accounts of the lives and of the miracles wrought by some of the greatest 19th and 20th century saints, with details of a host of authenticated healings by Andre Bessette, John Bosco, Frances Cabrini, Solanus Casey, John Paul II, Padre Pio, Elizabeth Seton, Francis Xavier Seelos, Fulton Sheen, Mother Teresa, and other good men and women blessed by God. The healings documented here are not hasty judgments made by gullible, overwrought believers; they’re instantaneous, complete, and permanent cures for which scientific medicine still has no explanations – cures that also meet the Vatican’s stringent seven-part test of authenticity. Patricia’s book can be purchased at:  shop.sophiainstitute.com

August 12, 2014 – JD Author of Drafted To Serve

I was in Chicago for the Catholic Marketing Network Trade Show. By coincidence, directly across the aisle from my One More Soul display was author “JD” giving away free copies of his new book Drafted To Serve. Drafted . . . is a book about miracles–not the typical physical healing miracles that drive the canonization process. No, these”miracles” COULD be degraded to mere “coincidences” were they not so astonishing and so common. They are a result of JD being financially strapped and desperate to capitalize on Pope John Paul II’s World Youth Day VIII visit to Denver 21 years ago. JD was quite regularly in hopeless situations, praying for JP II for help–and getting it.

I was at WYD VIII with my friend Jim Vititow and 7 young people. It was an incredible “pilgrimage” that Drafted To Serve gave me an opportunity to relive . John Paul II coined the phrases “Culture of Life” and “Culture of Death” and popularized their use (as in this program’s title “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America”). Who would deny JPII’s impact in leading us to a Culture of Life–a still elusive fact, but a victory guaranteed by a faithful God. I’m thinking especially of his Gospel of Life and Theology of the Body.

JD is a Colorado native, married with two sons, a service disabled Vietnam War veteran, having served five tours on swift boats. He graduated from the University of Denver with a dual degree in finance and real estate and currently owns a nationwide business in Denver. Drafted To Serve is his first book, written during three years of nearly full-time effort, which he felt compelled to complete in order to tell the world what happened when Pope John Paul II came to Denver in 1993.

JD and his buddy TP originally agreed to tell no one but the Catholic Church of the events that had taken place. They felt that due to the incredible nature of the story neither wished to step into the spotlight and have their lives turned upside down by the attention the story was certain to generate.

March 18, 2014 – Dan Lynch

Our study of Marian apparitions continues with this week’s Guest, Dan Lynch, founder of Dan Lynch Apostolates, promoting devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of America, Jesus King of All Nations, and Blessed John Paul II. Dan travels throughout the states presenting missions, promoting and conducting Image Visitations of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Our Lady of America. He and Sue live in Vermont; they have nine children and 20 grandchildren.

Today, we want primarily to learn more about Our Lady of America, the Immaculate Virgin. Dan’s book, Our Lady of America, Hope for the States is an excellent summary of information about Our Lady of America, the seer Sister Mary Ephrem (later Mildred Neuzil), Our Lady’s statue, medal, requests, and promises–including that more graces will be bestowed on the United States than all the graces from Lourdes and Fatima IF her wishes are granted!

Major ownership issues have slowed promotion of Our Lady of America. These legal issues have to do with copyright and trademarking of Our Lady of America devotional materials that resulted in an Indianapolis Federal Court trial from January 21st until the jury decision last week. The Final Judgment by Judge William T. Lawrence is expected any day. Kevin McCarthy is one of the plaintiffs (with Al Langsenkamp) in that case. Kevin was our Guest on January 7th (http://radiomaria.us/questforlife).

Please join us Tuesday the 18th at NOON ET to learn more about Our Lady of America–one of only two approved Marian apparitions in the United States: Our Lady of America in Ohio, and Our Lady of Good Help near Green Bay Wisconsin. You can listen on air or on line at radiomaria.us .

Blessings to you and your families as we are only one week away from the Solemnity of the Annunciation and Incarnation of Jesus on March 25th. Please plan special celebrations of this most awesome event in all human history–God becoming Man. Take the family to Mass and dinner. Take a day off from your usual activities to pray, do Eucharistic Adoration, participate in 40 Days for Life, and meditate on the significance of the divination of humanity and the humanizing of divinity.

September 23, 2012 – What about my plan?

This week on “Give God Permission” we answer the question, “What About My Plan?” by considering four simple points. First, we must be radically detached from everything other than God’s plan. Second, God will give us the desire to embrace His plan even if at first it doesn’t appeal to us. Third, to discover God’s plan, we need to see how the gifts He has given us can best meet people’s needs. Fourth, we should seek first God’s kingdom, bearing in mind that His plan leads us to the deep joy that awaits us there and makes every sacrifice well worth it. Fr. Peter and Janis discuss different facets of that incredible joy, which can begin to penetrate our lives even now as we submit our own plans to the Lord and embrace His plan with radical detachment and trust. Janis shares an experience of detachment and trust that opened a whole new way of using her gifts in service of the unborn, including her hauntingly beautiful song, “Small Voices Cry Mercy.” Fr. Peter and Janis invite everyone to Give God Permission at a deeper level in the context of today’s teaching, particularly in response to the need of the “little ones.” John Paul II referred to the plight of the unborn as the social injustice in contemporary society that most cries out to the the Christian conscience. Join us next week as we consider, “Can God’s Plan Include Failure?”

September 10, 2012 – St. Teresa of the Andes

This particular program is a conversation on one of the lesser known, but very important Carmelite Saints, St. Teresa of the Andes. In this conversation Mark and Frances discuss the earthly life of this wonderful Saint. St. Teresa of the Andes, who died in 1919 at the age of 19, is a model for young people. Her remarkable, although short, life, is a testament to how our young people today can begin to develop an intimate relationship with our Lord. Though she came from wealth, and had the benefit of a good Catholic family and education, St. Teresa’s life was not without pain and trial. Her dark times, however, only served to deepen both her relationship and love for the Lord. John Paul II said of her, “The secret of her perfection could be none other than love, a great love for Christ, and a filial love for the Virgin Mary.” She is truely a Saint for our time.
