POPE FRANCIS CALLS FOR YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE

ARCHDIOCESE of CINCINNATI MARKS YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE CALLED BY POPE FRANCIS
RADIO MARIA USA TO BROADCAST OPENING MASS “LIVE” AT 10:30 a.m. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 30, FROM EMMANUEL CHURCH IN DAYTON, OHIO
The Archdiocese of Cincinnati, in union with the Catholic Church around the world, will celebrate members of religious orders and others in consecrated life during the Year of Consecrated Life called by Pope Francis from Nov. 30, 2014 to Feb. 2, 2016.
The theme for the celebration in the Archdiocese, reflecting the Pope’s goals for the Year, is “Celebrating the Past, Serving in the Present, Embracing the Future.”
“Each of us has a call from God, and discovering God’s call for us will bring joy to our life,” said the Most Reverend Dennis M. Schnurr, Archbishop of Cincinnati. “Religious life / consecrated life is a viable option.”
The objectives he has approved for the Archdiocesan observance of the Year are to:
- increase the visibility of religious life / consecrated life;
- express appreciation;
- highlight the joy experienced in this vocational choice;
- educate about religious life / consecrated life.
“The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has a long and rich history of welcoming religious communities,” Archbishop Schnurr said, noting as examples that the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur are celebrating 175 years and the Poor Clare Sisters 25 years in the Archdiocese in 2015.
“Today 34 different Congregations of women and 12 different Congregations of brothers and priests minister in the Archdiocese – approximately 226 priests, 114 brothers, and 781 sisters. We are also blessed with the presence of Secular Institutes, public (Regnum Christi) and private associations (Children of Mary) of the faithful, and a Consecrated Virgin Living in the World. All of those are examples of the consecrated life.”
In addition to parish-wide observances, there will be two Archdiocesan events to mark the Year of Consecrated Life. Auxiliary Bishop Joseph R. Binzer will preside at the opening Mass at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at Emmanuel Church in Dayton which will be broadcast LIVE on Radio Maria USA. Archbishop Schnurr will preside at the closing Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016 at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains in Cincinnati.
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati is the 38th largest Catholic diocese in the country, with almost 500,000 Catholics, and has the sixth largest network of Catholic schools in terms of enrollment. The 19-county territory includes 213 parishes and 113 Catholic primary and secondary schools.
A Series on US Mission Work to Start on Nov. 14
Radio Maria will introduce a new program on Friday, November 14, 2014. Outreach USA: The Glenmary Missioners, will be airing at 6:00 p.m. Central/7:00 p.m. Eastern. Fr. Don Tranel, Development Director of the Glenmary Home Missioners in Cincinnati, Ohio, will be our opening host, but expect to hear from many others throughout this series. Did you ever consider that not all missions are foreign, that there are many counties in the United States that have NO Catholic presence? The Missioners address this need beautifully, and bring to life their stories of ministering to the poor and neglected missions here in our own US of A. Follow these good priests, brothers, and dedicated co-workers who comprise the Glenmary Home Missioners as they take us through their labors of love on behalf of our faith.
September 10, 2014 – Lisa Donigian and Immaculee Ilibagiza
Francesca Franchina MS Ed. speaks with Lisa Donigian of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish in Dayton, Ohio and Immaculee Ilibagiza of New York, survivor of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide that she recounted in her first book “Left To Tell” regarding her personal experience twenty years ago when this holocaust occurred in Africa. The conversation focuses on Immaculee and her family’s fate and deep faith walk, their deep spiritual formation, the need today for familial conversion of heart, metanoia, reconciliation, and personal/communal healing prayer. Immaculee speaks about her ministry that revolves around her deep commitment to Jesus and Our Lady, her numerous books, talks and retreats that focus on “Forgiveness, Healing and Hope” to be addressed in her weekend retreat held at St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Beavercreek, Ohio on Friday and Saturday, October 17th & 18th. Imaculee now travels extensively throughout the world. Lisa joined her in Belgium for a retreat this summer which brings her to Dayton in October. Immaculee’s ministry focuses on leading Marian pilgrimages and continuing to encourage all age groups to turn away from sin, be renewed, evangelize and pray, pray, pray. The approved Marian Apparitions at Kibeho warned of the gravity that occurred in the genocide twenty years ago. Our Lady’s words are startling and need to be taken to heart and invoke her in deep personal and communal prayer. Information can be found on the internet with the prophecies and spiritual instructions given to the world by our Blessed Mother at Kibeho. Also see the approved Marian apparitions at Akita. September 02, 2014 – “I tried to kill myself!” Debbie Tells Her Story
“Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams apparently took his own life, law enforcement officials said.”
The world of entertainment was shocked by this posting three weeks ago. Interest in suicide quickly became super high. It seemed that every news program and talk show was talking about Robin Williams, his acting career, his personal life, and how/why he committed suicide.
Debbie is a personal friend, but I did not know of this part of her life. I know her as a wife, mother, and grandmother who is totally committed to life–living her own to the max, deeply in love with her family, and completely dedicated to ending abortion and creating a Culture of Life, especially in southwestern Ohio.
So, I was taken aback when she called and offered to tell her story on Radio Maria’s “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America”. I had to ask myself if this was a good topic for this program. I believe it is, if for no other reason than on average over 100 people kill themselves every day in the USA. There are Suicide Prevention Resources like the Hotline—> 800-273-8255 and web sites with stories and educational resources.
Another reason this topic is timely is the steady push for “assisted suicide” legislation and the sanctioning of medical insurance coverage for “end-of-life counseling”.

We have multiple Guests to share their part in “Have A Heart For The Next Generation” — local adults and young people who have a heart for preborn children and want to learn how to stop the killing of their younger brothers and sisters in the Lord. Wendy is a veteran pro-life leader who “went from Bible College to jail to invitations to the White House”. She is VP of C-FAM (they monitor the often anti-life/family activities at the UN) and a former president of Concerned Women for America.
I am very eager to learn more about “Have A Heart . . .” and these totally committed people who are making a commitment to the culture of life in Dayton.

June 03, 2014 – Dan McConchie
Americans United for Life (AUL) develops and particularizes pro-life state legislation that protects women and their children as much as possible. AUL attorneys are very creative and finding new arguments that reduce the abortion industry in America, and to some degree around the world.
As AUL’s Vice President of Government Affairs, Dan McConchie leads these efforts with great passion and conviction. He was quoted in a recent interview, “Rubio Is Right: Life Does Begin At Conception,” and “It is an undisputed fact that a new human life begins when a sperm fertilizes an egg. Every single embryology textbook says the same thing, and has done so for over 100 years. Despite the left’s wishes to the contrary, this isn’t going to change any time soon, precisely because the science is settled.”
Dan’s compassion is contagious to the point that state legislatures compete for AUL ranking as the most pro-life state. If a state losses a notch in the AUL rankings, the legislators are on Dan’s door-step asking what they need to do to reestablish (or surpass) their prior ranking. Ohio just makes the top third at number 17.

April 1, 2014 – Katherine Ginkel
Katherine Ginkel has a unique job as educator of St Jude Hospice staff personnel on the Ethical and Religious Directives (ERDs) for Catholic Health Care Workers. These Directives were developed by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops to set a standard of care that is to be expected by all Catholic health care institutions and their employees and associates. These ERDs are periodically updated to reflect the ever changing threats to the dignified treatment and care of those who are in need of care in clinics, hospitals and in all critical and end-of-life care situations. For example, the ERDs absolutely forbid abortion and euthanasia.
The hospice industry is not always respectful of the dignity of human persons and their right to a natural death. Hospice care can be on opportunity for euthanasia as we reported in one of last year’s “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America” programs. The vocabulary now includes the phrase “stealth euthanasia” to describe the over dosing of pain medications to cause death.
St Jude Hospice was started by Tom Moreland as an authentically Catholic (loyal to Church teaching as reflected in the ERDs) alternative to secular hospice. In 2008, Tom started Saint Jude Healthcare, which eventually became the parent to Saint Jude Hospice and Spirit Homecare. Tom managed or owned hospices from Ohio to Mississippi, and Minnesota to California. There are now 13 St Jude Hospice locations in Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. Tom has requests from several bishops to open new locations in their dioceses.

For this conversation Mark and Frances welcomed into the studio one of the new Aspirants in the local Carmelite Community in Dayton, Ohio, Tim Bete. Tim is actually married to one of the long time members of the Secular Carmelite Order, so Mark and Frances wanted to explore what it was like to have be a ‘couple in Carmel.’ They also asked Tim what it was that drew him personally to Carmelite Spirituality. In addition to their own journey in Carmel, Tim and his wife are also the parents of a daughter who is pursuing a vocation as a Dominican Sister. This led to an interesting discussion on what it takes to raise and keep our children Catholic in our modern culture. Not surprisingly the main points focused on prayer, witness and continued exposure to things spiritual.

March 18, 2014 – Dan Lynch
Our study of Marian apparitions continues with this week’s Guest, Dan Lynch, founder of Dan Lynch Apostolates, promoting devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of America, Jesus King of All Nations, and Blessed John Paul II. Dan travels throughout the states presenting missions, promoting and conducting Image Visitations of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Our Lady of America. He and Sue live in Vermont; they have nine children and 20 grandchildren.
Today, we want primarily to learn more about Our Lady of America, the Immaculate Virgin. Dan’s book, Our Lady of America, Hope for the States is an excellent summary of information about Our Lady of America, the seer Sister Mary Ephrem (later Mildred Neuzil), Our Lady’s statue, medal, requests, and promises–including that more graces will be bestowed on the United States than all the graces from Lourdes and Fatima IF her wishes are granted!
Major ownership issues have slowed promotion of Our Lady of America. These legal issues have to do with copyright and trademarking of Our Lady of America devotional materials that resulted in an Indianapolis Federal Court trial from January 21st until the jury decision last week. The Final Judgment by Judge William T. Lawrence is expected any day. Kevin McCarthy is one of the plaintiffs (with Al Langsenkamp) in that case. Kevin was our Guest on January 7th (http://radiomaria.us/questforlife).
Please join us Tuesday the 18th at NOON ET to learn more about Our Lady of America–one of only two approved Marian apparitions in the United States: Our Lady of America in Ohio, and Our Lady of Good Help near Green Bay Wisconsin. You can listen on air or on line at radiomaria.us .
Blessings to you and your families as we are only one week away from the Solemnity of the Annunciation and Incarnation of Jesus on March 25th. Please plan special celebrations of this most awesome event in all human history–God becoming Man. Take the family to Mass and dinner. Take a day off from your usual activities to pray, do Eucharistic Adoration, participate in 40 Days for Life, and meditate on the significance of the divination of humanity and the humanizing of divinity.

January 21, 2014 – Trent Horn
Wednesday, 22 January 2014, marks the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe vs Wade and Doe vs Bolton decisions legalizing the killing of pre-born children in America. Trent Horn is an appropriate Guest for this week’s “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America” program.
Trent holds a Master’s degree in Theology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville and is currently an apologist and speaker for Catholic Answers. He specializes in training pro-lifers to intelligently and compassionately engage pro-choice advocates in genuine dialogue. He is the author of Answering Atheism and Making the Case for Life (DVD), both published by Catholic Answers.
Making the Case for Life is a very valuable teaching tool for transforming any abortion debate into a fruitful conversation–one that opens minds and hearts to the humanity of the pre-born child while maintaining a non-confrontational environment. Trent’s approach has been developed by refining ideas of seasoned pro-life leaders and applying them with hundreds of college students.
