Exhibit on St. Francis Coming to Brooklyn

“A historic exhibit of medieval manuscripts and papal documents associated with St. Francis of Assisi will be on display at Brooklyn Borough Hall from Dec. 2 to Jan. 14.

It was on view this past week at the U.N. Speakers at the opening in Manhattan affirmed the saint’s association with the world body’s peaceful aims and hoped his namesake pope would pay a visit next September.

ā€œFriar Francis: Traces, Words, Imagesā€ is a collection of 19 manuscripts and artifacts from the Sacred Convent of St. Francis of Assisi in Italy.

The artifacts date from the 13th and 14th centuries and are outside Italy for the first time in 700 years.

Archbishop Bernardito Auza, Vatican nuncio to the U.N., said the difficult and costly process to bring the ā€œpriceless documentsā€ to New York is ā€œworth the effort, because we believe that the values practiced and preached by St. Francis are also the fundamental values of the United Nations, namely peace, the harmonious development of peoples in brotherhood and love for nature.

ā€œWithout these values, we have wars and conflicts, injustices and all forms of slavery, environmental crises and disasters,ā€ he said.

One of the most striking pieces in the exhibit is Codex 338, which contains the oldest existing copies of St. Francis’ writings, including the Rule of the Friars Minor and the original draft of ā€œThe Canticle of the Creatures,ā€ dictated by St. Francis. The ā€œCanticleā€ is considered the oldest poetic text of Italian literature.

The exhibit includes a fragment of a biography of St. Francis by Thomas of Celano, his contemporary, and several papal bulls that refer to the saint and his religious order. The oldest papal document displayed is from 1220.

Steven Acunto told Catholic News Service the manuscripts are ā€œcompletely irreplaceable and precious.ā€ Acunto is president of the Italian Academy Foundation, an institute of cultural diplomacy that is one of the sponsors of the exhibit.”

June 30, 2014 – Elizabeth Kindelmann and the Flame of Love (#1 in the series)

Frances Harry interviews guest, Marika Zimmerman, on the Third Order Carmelite Elizabeth Kindelmann of Hungary about the ā€œFlame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Maryā€ Movement. This program lays the foundation for the ā€œFlame of Loveā€ devotion that begins in Hungary. Who is Elizabeth Kindelmann? What kind of life did she live? What is the ā€œFlame of Loveā€ movement? How did it come about? Why is this worthy of our attention? We talk about the private revelations given thru interior locutions to Elizabeth Kindelmann. Cardinal Peter Erdo, the Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, Primate of Hungary and President of the Council of Episcopal Conferences of Europe, gave his Imprimatur to the original Hungarian Diary on the ā€œFlame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.ā€ It also has the ā€œnihil obstatā€ to indicate there is nothing contrary to our faith or morals in the book. This new devotion is pertinent for today because the Blessed Mother wants to blind Satan and save souls. She asks our help in this work of Redemption.

May 28, 2014 – Dr. Ken Fung, MD

Francesca Franchina, MS Ed talks with Marika Zimmerman and Dr. Ken Fung, MD of Toronto, Canada about his long professional medical and psycho-therapy experience, the recent publication of his book and extensive research regarding Spiritual Depression and The Hidden Factors of Clinical Depression . Dr. Fung, Past President of The International Association of Christian Therapists (ACT) www.ACTheals.org cites non- consideration of the patient first as a spiritual being in treating depression vs. the most common medical physical-psychological treatment utilizing drugs, anti-depressants and long term psychotherapy. Rejection, abandonment, combinations of physical, mental, intellectual/sexual abuse, loss of love, grief, being broken hearted, early loss of spiritual identity/not knowing they are always loved by God are among the numerous causes of debilitating trauma. Trauma can cause depression and other medical conditions, reports Dr. Ken who delineates trauma sources and causes of depression looking and considering the whole person, utilizing research and experience in treating the medical, physical/psychological condition and recognizing and treating the spiritual dimension of each patient to bring them to wholeness.

April 08, 2014 – Peter LaBarbera

Peter will be our Guest on “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America” Tuesday NOON ET. He is President of Americans For Truth about Homosexuality (AFTAH), a non-partisan, non-profit group dedicated to exposing the homosexual-bisexual-transgender activist agendas. AFTAH is a counter to over a dozen national American “gay” groups with annual budgets ranging from just under $1 million to over $30 million working to advance an agenda which threatens to criminalize Christian opposition to behavior that most Americans believe is wrong.
LaBarbera has debated the top homosexual advocates while appearing on hundreds of TV and radio news programs, including FOX’s Hannity and Colmes, CNN’s “The Larry King Show” and CNN’s “Crossfire,” C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal,” National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered,” and Bill O’Reilly’s and Alan Colmes’ nationally syndicated radio programs. He has been quoted on homosexuality-related issues in newspapers across the nation, including The New York Times,Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, as well as by Associated Press and Reuters.
Peter will address Health Issues associated with homosexual behaviors and the question of whether same-sex-attraction (SSA) is a condition/disorder that people are born with or acquired. He will also examine the motives behind efforts to normalize SSA in our schools and culture. Are these often extreme tactics creating a back lash that will eventually bring these efforts down?

March 11, 2014 – Fr Andrew Apostoli, CFR Part 2

Please join us again this week with Fr Apostoli as we continue last week’s very interesting program about Our Lady of Fatima’s warnings and promises, specifically that Russia would be converted and there would be a period of peace in the world.
After Pope Blessed John Paul II completed the consecration in 1984, as Mary had requested in her appearance to Lucia in 1929, it did seem that great changes were taking place in Russia, including the complete abandonment of Communism, and a renewed receptivity to religion. And more recently, President Putin has been reducing access to abortion, eliminating promotion of homosexuality, and encouraging women to have children. Are Russian designs on the Ukraine a step backward? Did Mary change her mind?
This week we will focus on the Fatima story, the lives of the three children Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta. What were they like? Was their life idyllic or difficult? What kind of sufferings did they experience and what was their attitude toward suffering? What of Mary’s messages is still applicable to us in 21st Century America?
The children were shown a vision of Hell which affected them deeply. Should we take heed or trust in the mercy of God?
Also, this week a miracle has been accepted as due to the intercession of Archbishop Fulton Sheen, which will advance the cause for his canonization. Father Apostoli is vice-postulator for Archbishop Sheen so Father must be very pleased that his work is bearing fruit. I’ll ask him about that.

August 20, 2013 – Dr. Mary Davenport

The triennial meeting of the MWIA, Medical Women’s International Association, an organization started in 1919, was held three weeks ago in Seoul, Korea. Three AAPLOG (America Assn of Pro-Life Obstetricians & Gynecologists) women were scheduled presenters. Drs Donna Harrison, Mary Davenport, both ObGyns, and Dr. Martha Shuping, a psychiatrist flew to Seoul for the meeting, but at the last moment, they were informed their sessions would be cancelled. Why? Their presentations were cancelled because they did not support the pro-abortion ideology of the meeting’s organizers.

What happened next was quite astonishing. Be sure to listen–at radio maria.us –as Dr Mary will be our Guest on “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America” Tuesday at Noon ET.

She will describe her personal conversions to NFP-Only, Natural Procreative Technology, and the the Roman Catholic faith. She is the immediate past president of AAPLOG and can tell us about that organization.

But, we mainly want to hear how the Holy Spirit orchestrated the banning of their presentations to a small group of MWIA attendees so that their message could be heard all over the world. Lesson #1: The Holy Spirit will take the ball and run with it if allowed in the game. So, do your part–listen to that small voice encouraging you to do something that will advance the Culture of Life.

Just do it; the Holy Spirit will do most of the actual work!

Mary will synopsize the three presentations; all addressed the harm caused to women by abortion:
Donna Harrison’s presentation demonstrated that nations with laws protective of mothers and unborn babies have excellent maternal mortality statistics. Ireland is a classic example
Mary Davenport had a talk about abortion as a risk factor for pre-term birth, the cause of 15 million neonatal deaths each year internationally. Mary travels extensively to gather data and present the facts of abortions harm.
Martha Shuping had a presentation that included two case reports of women who suffered severe psychological harm from abortion, even though they had obvious risk factors that were not discussed in the informed consent process.

August 13, 2013 – Alan Parker

Alan Parker is the attorney president of San Antonio based The Justice Foundation (TJF) offering free legal representation to those whose fundamental freedoms and rights are being threatened. He serves as the lead legal counsel for Norma McCorvey (“Jane Roe” of Roe vs Wade) and Sandra Cano (“Mary Doe” of Doe vs Bolton) and is advancing the Culture of Life in America in a variety of ways, including fighting for parents rights in the education of their children.

TJF’s “Center Against Forced Abortion” offers letters to parents, fathers, and abortionists to discourage forcing or coercing girls into having an abortion. These have saved thousands of lives and can be used by you to give to a minor girl, her parents, teachers/counselors/pastors or anyone who may try to convince her to abort. She alone has the right to choose; that’s the law. The letters are available at www.TheJusticeFoundation.org.

I also expect to ask Alan about the future of abortion in America. With tougher restrictions becoming increasingly common, we are seeing more abortion facilities close each month. Are we really winning the fight for LIFE?

Another TJF project is collecting the testimonies of aborted women who wish they had NOT aborted their son or daughter. These powerful human stories are being used to convince legislators and voters that abortion should not be an option because it causes depression, grief, regret, suicide, and severe health problems for the mothers–and of course, killS their children.

August 2, 2013 – Judie Brown, president of American Life League

Judie Brown, president of American Life League, will discuss her reaction to being listed by Catholics For Choice as one of seven ā€œReligious Extremistā€ women in the world.

June 18, 2013 – Chris Slattery

We are honored today to have another great veteran front-line pro-lifer as our Guest on the Quest–“The Quest for a Culture of Life in America”. Chris Slattery is the Founder and President of Expectant Mother Care Frontline Pregnancy Centers (EMC) in America’s most hostile environment for pre-born babies.

NYC has the highest abortion rate in America–60%, if I recall correctly. EMC operates 12 pregnancy resource centers in four NYC boroughs, including 6 in the Bronx, of which one is a mobile unit with ultrasound. Since beginning in 1985, EMC has saved at least 44,000 babies from abortion and counseled over 125,000 women.

Chris has an established Pro-Life Internship that trains and engages people in the EMC ministry in NYC and expands EMC into other cities and states.

What will we learn from our program today that can motivate us to join the battle for a Culture of Life?
