Message from the Director: Month of July Dedicated of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ

banner fr tino

The month of July is traditionally dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. The feast of the Most Precious Blood of our Lord was instituted in 1849 by Pope Pius IX. We are reminded that by the shedding of His Precious Blood, Christ saved mankind from our sins. “For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured for many, for the forgiveness of sins.” Mt. 26:28. The Precious Blood of Jesus cleanses us from our sins. In the Sacrament of Penance, we are forgiven of our sins through the absolution of the priest. How powerful it is that we are restored to the supernatural life of grace.

The early Fathers say that the Church was born from the pierced side of Christ, and that the sacraments were brought forth through His Blood. “But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once, there came out blood and water.” Mt. Jn. 19:34. The Blood from the pierced side of Christ symbolizes the Precious Blood in the Most Holy Eucharist.

We wish to invoke the Blood of Jesus on ourselves, the sick and suffering, and the whole family of Radio Maria. We ask the Lord to protect us from all evil. The Blood of Jesus has the power to protect us, and lead us to the life of grace in Christ, in particular through the Sacraments. We ask the Lord to wash us clean in our mission of Radio Maria. We want to be faithful to our calling as a family, to our identity of a Radio that brings prayer, Christian and Human formation, News and Music in the lives of people.

It is Our Lady’s Radio and she wants to continue to lead us to Her Son Jesus who has poured out his Precious Blood for us.

Program: God’s Word Alive & Active

Prayer Written by St. John Paul II for Radio Maria

Papa giovanni

“Mary, guide us in our major decisions
and give us strength in times of trial
so that we may, with humble courage,
follow the hidden ways of Heaven,
keeping faith with God and mankind
so that we can bring the joyful message
of Christ, the Savior,
to the hearts and minds of all.

Mary, guiding star of evangelization,
be with us. Be with Radio Maria
as guide and be its protector.”

God is Merciful

In the 1930s, the Lord spoke to a young Polish nun, St. Faustina Kowalska about His Divine Mercy. St. Faustina started to spread the devotion to Divine Mercy. It is a reminder that God is merciful and forgiving to all of us.
The Lord has given to us, through St. Faustina, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy”

divine-mercy

(Repeat 3 times) O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!
Our Father, Hail Mary and the Apostle’s Creed

For each of the five decades (On each “Our Father” bead of the rosary, pray)

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

(On each of the 10 “Hail Mary” beads, pray)

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Concluding prayer (Repeat 3 times)

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Below are some of the messages from Jesus:

“Oh, what great graces I will grant to souls who say this chaplet (…) Write down these words, My daughter. Speak to the world about My mercy; let all mankind recognize My unfathomable mercy. It is a sign for the end times; after it will come the day of justice. While there is still time, let them have recourse to the fount of My mercy; let them profit from the Blood and Water which gushed forth for them” (Diary, 848).

“Say unceasingly the chaplet that I have taught you. Whoever will recite it, they will receive great mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy” (Diary, 687).

“It pleases Me to grant everything souls ask of Me by saying the chaplet. When hardened sinners say it, I will fill their souls with peace, and the hour of their death will be a happy one. Write this for the benefit of distressed souls; when a soul sees and realizes the gravity of its sins, when the whole abyss of the misery into which it immersed itself is displayed before its eyes, let it not despair, but with trust let it throw itself into the arms of My mercy, as a child into the arms of its beloved mother (…). Tell them no soul that has called upon My mercy has been disappointed or brought to shame. I delight particularly in a soul that has placed its trust in My goodness. Write that when they say this chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the merciful Savior” (Diary, 1541).

Blessed Feast of Corpus Christi

A Blessed Feast of Corpus Christi,
the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

REMEMBER: AT HOLY MASS, THE BREAD AND WINE BECOME
THE BODY AND BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST.

Jesus said to them,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood,
you have no life in yourselves.”
“He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
“For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.”
“He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.”
“As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me,
he also will live because of Me.”
“This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died;
he who eats this bread will live forever.”
John 6:53-58

Mary Leads Us to Jesus

banner fr tino

As we begin the month of June, traditionally dedicated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we continue to stay close to Mary, our Mother, who leads us to Jesus her Son.

St. Margaret is known for spreading the devotion to Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in the world. She was a French nun who joined the Visitation Order in 1671. In 1675, as she knelt in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, Our Lord said to her: “See this Heart which is so deeply in love with men that it has spared nothing, to the point of wearing itself out and consuming itself, to prove to them its love. And in return, for the most part, it receives only ingratitude through their irreverence, and through the coldness and contempt which they have for me in this Sacrament of love… It is for this that I am asking you that the first Friday, after the Octave of Corpus Christi be set apart as a feast in honor of my Heart – a day on which to receive me in Holy Communion and make a solemn act of reparation…”

The Sacrament of Love is the Most Holy Eucharist. We do not want to show any ingratitude to His Body and Blood in the Most Holy Eucharist. The best way to prepare ourselves to receive Holy Communion is through a worthy Confession.

Let us open our hearts to Jesus present in the Most Holy Eucharist.

It is not too late to give. If you would like to make a donation to Radio Maria you can do so by visiting our Donate Page or by calling in a pledge to 888-408-0201.

banner fr tino

Dear friends,

In this month of May, let us thank Our Lady, our Mother, for giving us the gift of Radio Maria. In this time of grace, Our Lady wants to talk to us through Radio Maria. She continues to lead us to Jesus her Son when she says “Do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5).

During our Spring Mariathon 2015, we are encouraged and inspired by many of you who have renewed your commitment to Radio Maria with your prayers, generosity and the help of many volunteers. You believe in the mission of Radio Maria in the Church. You help the Blessed Mother do the work of her Son. Thank you.

I strongly urge those of you who have not yet committed themselves, to help Radio Maria with your financial contribution to make that act of love. Help the Blessed Mother to help us. We are waiting for you.

Let us pray for the success of this Mariathon in order to help our Blessed Mother to lead more people to Jesus.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, interview with Father James Loughran, Director of the Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute (GEII)

On Friday the 23rd, Radio Maria NY hosted a special program on the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Since 1898, traditionally observed in the northern hemisphere from the 18th to the 25th of January and formerly known as the Octave of Christian Unity, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity involves ‎Christian communities and Churches across the world, including the Catholic ‎Church.

Launched over a century ago by Fr. Paul James Francis Wattson, SA (1863 – 1940) founder of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement at Graymoor, Garrison, NY, since its inception the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity fostered reconciliation and healing through atonement — the unity of men and women with God and with one another. Fr. Paul was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1886. In 1908, he initiated the Church Unity Octave believing that a time set aside for prayer and seminars would hasten Christian unity. An advocate of corporate reunion between the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches, he finally embraced Roman Catholicism. In 1909, the Society of the Atonement became the first religious community of Christians to be received corporately into the Roman Catholic Church since the Reformation. Fr. Paul was ordained a Catholic priest by Archbishop John M. Farley in 1910.

(More on the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement and the Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute (GEII), at: http://atonementfriars.org and http://geii.org/week_of_prayer_for_christian_unity/)

“Since 1968, the resource material for reflection, prayer and celebration on a ‎chosen theme for the Week of Prayer for Christain Unity is jointly issued by the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Promoting ‎Christian Unity and the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches (WCC).  This year the theme was: “Jesus said to her: “Give me to drink“, taken from the ‎episode of the Samaritan woman at the well, in John’s Gospel.”

In his recent meeting with the men and women religious, the Pope spoke extensively about ecumenism suggesting the three main ingredients for a fruitful dialogue:

The Pope spoke of three conditions at the core of the search for Christian unity – firstly, there’s no unity without conversion of heart, which includes forgiving and asking for forgiveness. Secondly he said there is no unity without prayer and therefore men and women religious who pray for unity are like ‘an invisible monastery’ bringing together Christians of different denominations from different countries around the world.Thirdly, the Pope said, there is no unity without holiness of daily life. so the more we put our search for unity into practise in our relations with others, the more we will be modelling our lives on the message of the Gospel.

Live coverage of the 2015 March For Life in Washington DC

March For Life

On January 22nd, hundreds of thousands of pro-life people, mostly young adults, will come to Washington D.C.  to March for Life as we protest Roe v. Wade.  Every year since abortion was legalized, pro-lifers have marched to let Congress, the Supreme Court, and the nation know that Americans support life.  January is not the ideal month for standing in the cold for hours, so everyone bundles up and somehow that day seems to be one of the coldest and rainiest of the year.  In spite of the weather, we still March making great sacrifices because the unborn need a voice. Join us for LIVE coverage leading up to the March and Thursday throughout the day.

Also, Join with your Radio Maria Family in the Novena …For the conversion of all hearts and the end to abortion. http://www.usccb.org/

Meet Our Core Team – Danny Brou

danny brou

As the broadcast engineer for the southern region, Danny Brou oversees the maintenance and operation of the transmitters sites in Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi.

Danny brings his many years of experience and wisdom to help keep Radio Maria broadcasting. We are so grateful that Danny is always there to give of his time and knowledge to bring Our Lady’s radio to as many people as possible.

Put God First. Jesus must be our Love, our Teacher, and our Guide.

Happy New Year!!!    We are so excited about this coming year for you, our Radio Maria Family, and for Radio Maria USA and all that God has planned for 2015!  Did you know that Radio Maria is the largest Catholic radio in the world?  We are in over 70 countries on all continents and GROWING!  This would not be possible without YOU!!!  So many conversions are happening through Radio Maria and we invite you to grow deeper in your faith and love of Jesus through Our Blessed Mother’s special instrument…Radio Maria. Tell all those you know and love about Radio Maria and spread the JOY!!!

PadreLivioDear friends, we are now at the beginning of a new year, a blank page of the human history to be written, but also and especially of our own life. Faith invites us to look at the future through the light of hope for the world was saved and Jesus is alive among us, with the invincible power  of his love. The presence of the Risen Christ makes us certain that evil will not win and that the last word is the one of good, life and truth.

The time given us by God is a precious gift to be well spent and not wasted. Every passing moment will never come back. It’s up to us, through daily fidelity, to write words of eternity. The first word to be printed in our hearts with indelible characters is “conversion“.  Time is given us to let us know, love and serve God. This is the only real purpose and goal of our lives.

To be converted means to put God first. Jesus must be our Love, our Teacher, and our Guide. Let us fix our sight towards the goal of eternity and,  day by day, let us advance on the path of salvation and joy. Let us walk together with Jesus and Mary and the whole Church,  in earth and in heaven.

Radio Maria is a voice calling for conversion. So many of you could bear witness. This is its identity and its reason for existing. It’s a voice sounding like a new Pentecost, in a concert made of peoples and languages, thanks to the missionary spirit animating it. Let us  proceed together with confidence in this wonderful path.

Yours Father Livio  – Priest Director of World Family of Radio Maria

Tune in every Thursday at 9 am (Eastern Time) for the celebration of the Holy Mass live from St. Mary’s Church in Manhattan, Lower East Side

On December the 4th 2014, Radio Maria NY started broadcasting the 9 am Holy Mass live from St Mary’s Church in Manhattan, Lower East Side. We are glad to confirm our commitment to bring such a beautiful celebration to all of our listeners and wish to thank once again the congregation of St. Mary’s and its Pastor, Andrew O’Connor, for welcoming Radio Maria into their parish.

Father Andrew O’Connor
Father Andrew O’Connor

Besides being the third oldest Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of New York, St Mary’s Church is also headquartering Father O’Connor’s Goods of Conscience project:”an apparel line employing local craftspeople and importing wild cotton produced by Mayan Indian weavers who are paid a living wage, that fosters the “cycle of charity”, a process that includes becoming involved in the lives of the poor in a manner that respects and enhances the dignity of all parties involved in the transaction. As O’Connor explains on the Goods of Conscience website, it’s about fulfilling a vision of “a global network of interconnected, interdependent local, self-sustaining businesses—a global social fabric.”

TOP BOOKS of 2014 – Ken Huck of Meet the Author

Ken Huck host of Meet the Author

Meet the Author

with Ken Huck every Thursday at 2pm Central / 3pm Eastern

I love being a Radio Maria volunteer!  Hosting Meet the Author for nearly four years and I still can’t believe it because each week I have the privilege of talking with the best Catholic authors.   What is my favorite book of 2014?  How can I possibly choose among so many wonderful books!!  Here are my thoughts on my favorites for 2014.

I love conversion stories and we had several wonderful examples this year.  Here are my favorites:

  • “Something Other Than God” by Jennifer Fulwiler May 8, 2014
  • “A Voice UnDefeated” by country music superstar Collin Raye May 29, 2014
  • “Not God’s Type” by Holly Ordway.  Holly’s conversion is about as improbable as St Paul’s! October 16, 2014
  • A book that has had a great impact on my prayer life is “The Better Part” by Fr. John Bartunek November 6, 2014
  • “St Peter’s Bones”by Thomas Craughwell. Because of this book I was able to arrange a visit to the excavation under the Vatican this summer and venerate the bones of St Peter! February 20, 2014
  • For pure fun Simcha Fisher’s “The Sinner’s Guide to Natural Family Planning” March 13, 2014
  • But if you really, really, really pressed me, my favorite book discussed in 2014 was “Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist” by Dr. Brant Pitre April 3, 2014

I know 2015 will be another great year of insightful interviews with top authors of great books.   Listen live every Thursday 2pm central/3pm eastern – rebroadcast Saturday midnight central/1 am eastern and again Tuesday 5am central/6am eastern.

Meet Our Core Team – Frank Hare

Frank HareFrank has been with Radio Maria since it’s early days. He was introduced to Radio Maria in late 2000 when there was a need for someone to fill in for a departing employee within a short time. Frank comes from a long background of radio having grown up spending many hours in and around radio stations with his father, a broadcast engineer.

Before beginning his work at Radio Maria, Frank was heavily involved in ministry teams in the diocese of Alexandria volunteering his knowledge of sound equipment and recording, a work he continues to this day.

As the Production Manager, Frank oversees the production department and all of the technical and logistical work that goes into getting the radio signal from the microphones to the radio transmitters. Frank’s work also extends into all things technical in the workings of Radio Maria. Whether is be building and maintaining the website, repairing computers and equipment or changing light bulbs, Frank is always there to help Our Lady’s radio in any way he can.

New York’s studio facility revamped

photo 1

In the first week of December, James Mora, WF technician from our Spanish network in Houston, and Marco Cech, WF Audio Frequency Supervisor, came to assess and upgrade Radio Maria’s studio facility in Oliver Street, New York. New mics have been mounted; rack-room re-wiring, consoles’ hardware and software tweaking, and cable testing to analyze and ensure standards for audio performance have been run. After this upgrade, our studio facility looks like new, shiny and functional. NY’s staff is grateful to James and Marco for their hard work!

Meet Our Core Team: Larry Paul

Larry PaulLarry comes to us with 20+ years of radio experience. He deals with everything connected with the smooth running of our broadcasts by overseeing soundboard operations, assisting in updating and maintaining music selections, and most specially, assisting the presenters and their guests in preparing for their weekly programs. Larry was originally recruited as a volunteer to help air Masses over Radio Maria on the weekends. Once he became involved with the Mass broadcasts, he recognized how important Radio Maria’s ministry was, especially to shut in’s and those who could not go to Mass themselves. Soon, he felt led to continue and expand his work for the ministry, and joined Radio Maria as a staff member in August, 2012. As an extra blessing to us, when he’s not working, he volunteers extra hours to Radio Maria in his free time. Prior to coming onboard with Radio Maria, Larry was the Finance Director for an area car dealership, and is a well-known personality through-out the Alexandria, Louisiana area.

julie-clareAs one of our Production Assistants, Julie-Clare is an immense asset to the Radio Maria family. She graduated from a local Alexandria college with honors and a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Communications in 2010. She was introduced to Radio Maria through Kathie Duggan (host of Sacred Treasures) in the very early days of the station, and at the age of 13, she was behind the scenes volunteering on the audio board, helping to air live prayers and programs. Ever since those early days of Radio Maria, she had a fascination with radio and media. While in the final semesters of college, she was given two radio programs on campus, and co-hosted a news show at another station. Julie-Clare believes God led her back to Radio Maria in 2012. Since her return, she has expertly handled the many components of producing a seamless radio program. Radio Maria is blessed to have Julie-Clare in the family.

POPE FRANCIS CALLS FOR YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE

ARCHDIOCESE of CINCINNATI MARKS YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE CALLED BY POPE FRANCIS

RADIO MARIA USA TO BROADCAST OPENING MASS “LIVE” AT 10:30 a.m. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER  30, FROM EMMANUEL CHURCH IN DAYTON, OHIO

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati, in union with the Catholic Church around the world, will celebrate members of religious orders and others in consecrated life during the Year of Consecrated Life called by Pope Francis from Nov. 30, 2014 to Feb. 2, 2016.

The theme for the celebration in the Archdiocese, reflecting the Pope’s goals for the Year, is “Celebrating the Past, Serving in the Present, Embracing the Future.”
“Each of us has a call from God, and discovering God’s call for us will bring joy to our life,” said the Most Reverend Dennis M. Schnurr, Archbishop of Cincinnati. “Religious life / consecrated life is a viable option.”

The objectives he has approved for the Archdiocesan observance of the Year are to:

  • increase the visibility of religious life / consecrated life;
  • express appreciation;
  • highlight the joy experienced in this vocational choice;
  • educate about religious life / consecrated life.

“The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has a long and rich history of welcoming religious communities,” Archbishop Schnurr said, noting as examples that the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur are celebrating 175 years and the Poor Clare Sisters 25 years in the Archdiocese in 2015.

“Today 34 different Congregations of women and 12 different Congregations of brothers and priests minister in the Archdiocese – approximately 226 priests, 114 brothers, and 781 sisters. We are also blessed with the presence of Secular Institutes, public (Regnum Christi) and private associations (Children of Mary) of the faithful, and a Consecrated Virgin Living in the World. All of those are examples of the consecrated life.”

In addition to parish-wide observances, there will be two Archdiocesan events to mark the Year of Consecrated Life. Auxiliary Bishop Joseph R. Binzer will preside at the opening Mass at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at Emmanuel Church in Dayton which will be broadcast LIVE on Radio Maria USA. Archbishop Schnurr will preside at the closing Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016 at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains in Cincinnati.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati is the 38th largest Catholic diocese in the country, with almost 500,000 Catholics, and has the sixth largest network of Catholic schools in terms of enrollment.  The 19-county territory includes 213 parishes and 113 Catholic primary and secondary schools.

Honoring Our Veterans

As we honor our veterans today, please join us at Radio Maria as we thank God for all who have served our country, living and deceased. Our prayers and grateful thoughts are especially with those who live with deep physical and emotional scars because of their generous service. To all the heroes—sung and unsung—of the USA military, we extend our heart-felt “Thank you” and “May God bless, protect and reward you.”

Meet Our Core Team – Carla Rachal

carlaWe want to introduce everyone to Carla Rachal, Administrative Assistant at Radio Maria, US. Carla hails from Natchitoches, Louisiana, and before she accepted the position at Radio Maria, put in 20 years of service in the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department for the State of Louisiana. Yes, Carla was a game warden! When she joined our staff in February of 2013, she immediately put her administrative and organization skills to work for us, handling all the day-to-day requirements of running our office. As you can tell, Carla is quite multi-dimensional, and she is an invaluable asset to the smooth management of Radio Maria, US.

A Series on US Mission Work to Start on Nov. 14

Radio Maria will introduce a new program on Friday, November 14, 2014. Outreach USA: The Glenmary Missioners, will be airing at 6:00 p.m. Central/7:00 p.m. Eastern. Fr. Don Tranel, Development Director of the Glenmary Home Missioners in Cincinnati, Ohio, will be our opening host, but expect to hear from many others throughout this series. Did you ever consider that not all missions are foreign, that there are many counties in the United States that have NO Catholic presence? The Missioners address this need beautifully, and bring to life their stories of ministering to the poor and neglected missions here in our own US of A. Follow these good priests, brothers, and dedicated co-workers who comprise the Glenmary Home Missioners as they take us through their labors of love on behalf of our faith.

Happy Feast of All Saints

Joseph’s Way with Devin Schadt Starting Oct. 26

On Sunday, October 26, 2014, we will introduce a new program, Joseph’s Way: The Call to Fatherly Greatness, hosted by Devin Schadt. In the past, Devin has been a guest on Radio Maria, and we are so happy to have him onboard now as a presenter. The title of his program is taken from the title of his book of the same name. It is a powerful daily devotional for modern day dads and husbands who want to walk in the footsteps of the man who most perfectly fulfilled his vocation as a father, St. Joseph. Devin will guide our audience by transmitting to them the biblical vision of fatherhood, its necessity, glory and irreplaceable effect on families and society. Among other things, Devin is also the founder of Fathers of St. Joseph, an apostolate that works for the renewal of authentic fatherhood. Joining Devin is Brian Gail, author of a remarkable novel Fatherless. This book has also become a powerful tool for catechesis. He is a highly sought after speaker on matters of faith and family. Please join Devin and Brian on Sundays, at 4:00 p.m. Central/5:00 p.m. Eastern.

Beatification of Pope Paul VI

Pope Paul VIThis Sunday, October 19, Pope Francis will preside over the Beatification of Pope Paul VI, who died in 1978. Pope Paul VI is best known for being the author of Humanae Vitae, the controversial Encyclical on contraception. He contributed greatly to the implementation of the documents of the Second Vatican Council and their directives. Radio Maria US will broadcast a recording of this Celebration at 10:30 AM CDT (11:30 AM EDT). Please join us!

Catholic Kaleidoscope Beginning Oct. 19

Alyssa BormesRadio Maria will introduce a new program on Sunday, October 19, 2014. Catholic Kaleidoscope, hosted by Alyssa Bormes, will be airing at 1:00 p.m. Central/2:00 p.m. Eastern. Alyssa holds a Master’s degree in Catholic Studies from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Minnesota. She is the author of The Catechism of Hockey, in which she uses the metaphor of hockey and sports devotion to explain the responsibility of Catholic parents to raise their children in the teachings of the Church. Currently, she is the Assistant to the President of The American Chesterton Society. In her spare time, she is a popular speaker and retreat leader on a range of Catholic topics, and is known for her gift of igniting a newfound sense of wonder in the church using storytelling, humor and analogy. Alyssa truly has a “kaleidoscope” of gifts to offer our Radio Maria listeners.
You will be able to find archives of the program at: http://radiomaria.us/catholickaleidoscope/

New Scripture Program Starting Oct. 10

On Friday, October 10, 2014, a new program began on Radio Maria. Passion: The Word of God, hosted by Fr. John Murray, will be airing every other Friday, at 10:00 a.m. Central/11:00 a.m. Eastern. Father Murray comes to us from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, in Brooklyn, New York. He will take us through the Liturgical year with interesting Scriptural topics, dealing with them in a “Catholic” way. The sessions will be interesting, and even fun, because Father plans to have a live audience of young adults. After his talk, he will encourage questions from the group, then have them make the topic relevant to their age. Father Murray has a miraculous personal story of his own. In 2010, while walking on the boardwalk on the Jersey Shore, he fell, hit his head, and was instantly paralyzed from his chest down. He was told that he had no chance of “any voluntary movement.” By the grace of God, he is now walking with the help of a rollator, drives his own vehicle, and continues to preach Missions and retreats. We are proud to have Fr. John Murray onboard with our Radio Maria family.
The archives of the program can be found at http://radiomaria.us/passionthewordofgod/

September 02, 2014 – “I tried to kill myself!” Debbie Tells Her Story

“Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams apparently took his own life, law enforcement officials said.”

The world of entertainment was shocked by this posting three weeks ago. Interest in suicide quickly became super high. It seemed that every news program and talk show was talking about Robin Williams, his acting career, his personal life, and how/why he committed suicide.

Debbie is a personal friend, but I did not know of this part of her life. I know her as a wife, mother, and grandmother who is totally committed to life–living her own to the max, deeply in love with her family, and completely dedicated to ending abortion and creating a Culture of Life, especially in southwestern Ohio.

So, I was taken aback when she called and offered to tell her story on Radio Maria’s “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America”. I had to ask myself if this was a good topic for this program. I believe it is, if for no other reason than on average over 100 people kill themselves every day in the USA. There are Suicide Prevention Resources like the Hotline—> 800-273-8255 and web sites with stories and educational resources.

Another reason this topic is timely is the steady push for “assisted suicide” legislation and the sanctioning of medical insurance coverage for “end-of-life counseling”.

New Program To Debut July 25

John PreissFAMILY MATTERS, a new program promoting the message of Fatima and sanctification of family life, will debut on Radio Maria, Friday, July 25 at 1:00 pm Central/2:00 pm Eastern. John Preiss – host of this hour-long program, is President of the Fatima Family Apostolate International and Editor of the Immaculate Heart Messenger magazine. This new program is filled with practical information on our Catholic faith, family life, and the message of Fatima. The goal of FAMILY MATTERS is to educate listeners with the help of the show’s guests on interesting aspects that we face in our everyday lives as Catholic Christians.

The first show’s topic is “Catholic Grandparents,” with guest Michael LaCorte. Mr. LaCorte is with the Catholic Grandparents Association.

July 8, 2014 – Professor Michael Carter

Last week, in the midst of the Fortnight For Freedom events, University of Dayton History Professor Michael Carter made an excellent presentation at St Charles Borromeo Church in Kettering Ohio. I asked him to share his “History of Religious Freedom and Catholicism” lecture with the Radio Maria listeners on “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America” Tuesday the 8th at Noon ET. He graciously accepted. As we continue our quest for government’s acknowledgement of our right to religious freedom, including the right to act and behave in public according to our beliefs, it is good to take a look back into our history to see if our religious liberty has ever been under such severe attack. I asked Professor Mike what was the situation in the 13 colonies regarding religious freedom? What role did Catholics play in the founding of our country? Compare with the present day attacks on religious freedom by or own government.

Francesca Franchina, MS Ed. Radio Maria Ohio Programming and program presenter, continues discussion with Jack Davis, retired expert communications executive, focusing on the happenings and remarks by the Council who decided to turn Jesus over to Pilate to die on the Cross by Crucifixion accusing Him of blasphemy. Hear the conversations and steps leading up to Jesus being condemned to death, and what the Blessed Mother Mary, Mother of Jesus, St. John the Evangelist and the three Marys were doing, seeing and saying at this time. Early on Good Friday Jesus was in a dungeon at Caiphas’ house being tortured and taunted by the soldiers. Jesus was pummeled and spat upon, fettered and roped, described and dictated by Jesus’ Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary and communicated to and written by a Spanish nun, Sr. Mary of Agreda in The Mystical City of God: The Divine History and Life of The Virgin Mother of God. This classic four volumes of the Blessed Mother’s personal testimonyof her life and teaching received the Imprimatur and is translated from the original Spanish by Fiscar Marison (Rev. Geo J. March 25, 2014 – Kevin McCarthy

Kevin McCarthy will be our Guest on “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America” on Tuesday the 25th. Kevin was our Guest on January 7th speaking about Our Lady of America, the Immaculate Virgin. That talk is archived at radiomaria.us. The Federal Court trial he spoke of back then is finished with a very favorable outcome that still awaits some final statements by Judge William Lawrence.

Kevin is a secular lawyer and canon lawyer with a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Angelicum in Rome. He will be speaking with us on Tuesday at Noon ET about the Annunciation and Incarnation of Jesus–the most awesome event in human history. The Annunciation event is not given much attention in the USA, but is a Holyday of Obligation in some countries.

Whenever we say the Hail Mary, and as part of the Angelus, we repeat the words of the Angel Gabriel’s Announcement to Mary that she would bear the Savior in her womb. Did she realize then that she would nurse Him as an infant/toddler, and then nurture and accompany Him through the 33 years of His earthly life? She was Jesus’ most faithful disciple, even with Him at his cruel death on a cross, and burial. She surely understood that her
Son would rise from the dead on the third day. I wonder if she was waiting at the tomb with new garments and some food. Scripture does not say.

Please join us in celebrating the Annunciation and Incarnation of Jesus, at your local parish and on Radio Maria’s “The Quest for a culture of Life in America”. If you are near Dayton, meet us at St Anthony Church or Emmanuel Church–see the accompanying flier.

March 19, 2014 – Prophecies of the future of our world– Dr. Kelly Bowring

Christine Watkins interviews Dr. Kelly Bowring, author, speaker, and theologian, who speaks on the Catholic prophesies regarding the end times. In this interview, his second with What Next God? on Radio Maria, Dr. Bowring gives us great insight into authentic prophesies and apparitions concerning our immediate future and the world to come.
