Live Children’s Rosary On The Second Saturday

We have a very special announcement to make. Starting on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. Central/4:00 p.m. Eastern, we introduced our listening audience to The Children’s Rosary. The Children’s Rosary is a lay prayer movement that started in 2011, with the help of Dr. Blythe Kaufman and others, in their local parish in Connecticut. The rosary prayer groups are composed of children, and led by children. The target age of the children for these prayer groups is between 4 and 14 years old. Of special note are children with disabilities who may be older in age but have a special place in the children’s rosary. The movement has now grown, with numerous groups throughout the United States, and even reaching Australia, Canada, England, Kenya, and Nigeria. We invite you to hear The Children’s Rosary on the 2nd Saturday of each month, at 3:00 p.m. Central/4:00 p.m. Eastern, and visit their website at childrensrosary.blogspot.com . You will be abundantly blessed by these precious little voices as they pray.

Live coverage of the 2015 March For Life in Washington DC

March For Life

On January 22nd, hundreds of thousands of pro-life people, mostly young adults, will come to Washington D.C.  to March for Life as we protest Roe v. Wade.  Every year since abortion was legalized, pro-lifers have marched to let Congress, the Supreme Court, and the nation know that Americans support life.  January is not the ideal month for standing in the cold for hours, so everyone bundles up and somehow that day seems to be one of the coldest and rainiest of the year.  In spite of the weather, we still March making great sacrifices because the unborn need a voice. Join us for LIVE coverage leading up to the March and Thursday throughout the day.

Also, Join with your Radio Maria Family in the Novena …For the conversion of all hearts and the end to abortion. http://www.usccb.org/

October 30, 2014 – Marriage and Assorted Gems

The world itself is in grave need of the witness of strong and beautiful marriages today. It is desperate for this light. We must create a culture that esteems marriage and family. These words should be whispered with reverence, marriage…family. They are sacred sacraments or signs of God’s inestimable love for the world.

September 02, 2014 – “I tried to kill myself!” Debbie Tells Her Story

“Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams apparently took his own life, law enforcement officials said.”

The world of entertainment was shocked by this posting three weeks ago. Interest in suicide quickly became super high. It seemed that every news program and talk show was talking about Robin Williams, his acting career, his personal life, and how/why he committed suicide.

Debbie is a personal friend, but I did not know of this part of her life. I know her as a wife, mother, and grandmother who is totally committed to life–living her own to the max, deeply in love with her family, and completely dedicated to ending abortion and creating a Culture of Life, especially in southwestern Ohio.

So, I was taken aback when she called and offered to tell her story on Radio Maria’s “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America”. I had to ask myself if this was a good topic for this program. I believe it is, if for no other reason than on average over 100 people kill themselves every day in the USA. There are Suicide Prevention Resources like the Hotline—> 800-273-8255 and web sites with stories and educational resources.

Another reason this topic is timely is the steady push for “assisted suicide” legislation and the sanctioning of medical insurance coverage for “end-of-life counseling”.

August 26, 2014 – National Day of Rememberance for Aborted Babies – Monica Miller, Eric Scheidler & Gary Anderson

Millions of our American children have been legally murdered in their mother’s wombs to satisfy a disordered craving for immoral sexual activity. Most of their bodies were flushed into urban sewage systems; their remains known but to God. But a precious few–their bodies rescued from dumpsters and garbage bags–have been dignified by burial in hallowed ground at sites scattered around our country.

Today, we call attention to these unwanted children who never nestled in their father’s arms or suckled at their mother’s breasts. Instead, they have been sacrificed on the alter of convenience, accommodated by the professions of medicine, law, and religion.

Our Guests today are Monica Miller (Citizens for a Pro-Life Society), Eric Scheidler ( Executive Director of Prolife Action League) and Gary Anderson (Culture of Life Director for Ohio Knights of Columbus).
Monica has rummaged through hundreds of dumpsters and buried the human remains of thousands of aborted children. She is the author of Abandoned, The Untold Story of the Abortion Wars.
Eric is a second generation activist leader of abortion mill presence, sidewalk-counseling, and a multitude of activities aimed at protecting women and children from the abortion scourge.
Gary represents the Knights of Columbus, an organization that has steadfastly supported pro-life for decades by providing free ultrasound machines to pregnancy support centers, and establishing a network of shrines that honor our aborted children.

July 29, 2014 – Robert Reilly

Not very long ago, virtually all people and religions considered same-sex attraction as “disordered” and same-gender sexual activity as disgusting, unlawful, and intrinsically evil. But today, numerous polls indicate that most Americans, including many Catholics, now support same-sex “marriage”.

Where has the “gay rights” movement come from, and how has it so easily (and successfully) conquered America? Robert Reilly believes the answers are in the dynamics of rationalizing sexual misbehavior. He makes his case in Making Gay Okay, How Rationalizing Homosexual Behavior is Changing Everything.

Rationalization or justification, or making to appear normal, is not new to our culture. Consider the rationalization of birth control, abortion, divorce, and co-habitation, to name but a few behaviors now considered normal, but not long ago were shameful.

American institutions–courts, armed forces, schools, Boy Scouts, foreign policy–have fallen in line to accept homosexuality as normal and the behavior as acceptable. What more can we expect? What can be done to stop this assault on decency and common sense. I pray that Robert has some answers for us.

July 2, 2014 – Acclaimed international expert on China’s One Child Policy–Mrs. Reggie Littlejohn

Christine Watkins interviews Reggie Littlejohn, who, in sharing her own compelling story from atheist to Catholic activist, exposes how girls are being targeted for death, just because they’re girls. Mrs. Littlejohn is a leading voice, battling forced abortion, gendercide (the sex-selective abortion of baby girls) and sexual slavery in China. Her organization, Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, is also saving lives through its “Save a Girl” campaign, which finds women in China, who are about to abort or abandon their baby girls, and convinces them to keep their daughters. (See: www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org)

June 25, 2014 – Caught in the pornography trap–Bruce Hanneman

Christine Watkins interviews Bruce Hanneman, co-founder with his wife of Elizabeth Ministry International, which helps people recover from pornography addiction. Pornography almost ruined his life and his marriage, and Bruce shares his own recovery story with humility, wit, and candor. His understanding of Theology of the Body, combined with training in brain science and the bio-chemistry of sex has put an end to the mystery of lust and given him a way to share God’s plan for sexuality with proven answers for healing. See www.reclaimsexualhealth.com

June 24, 2014 – Anne Cherney

Anne and her husband gave it back to God! They gave back to the Creator the decision, power and authority that He gives by way of Natural Family Planning (NFP). AND, God generously reciprocated by giving them 10 beautiful children and 34 born grandchildren–17 of each gender, with an unspecified tie-breaker en-route! Praise the Lord from whom all Supreme Blessings flow.

AND, 90% of this large family gets together a couple times per month because they are all within a 30 mile diameter circle. I can only imagine the fun and vitality that all these cousins enjoy together?

Anne gives Fr John Hardon credit for coining Supernatural Family Planning, as well as the encouragement she needed to pursue her Masters Degree at the John Paul II Institute.

Anne does not condemn NFP. She suggests that SnFP is really a more accurate version of natural child spacing. Why? maybe because God created Nature. God and Nature are synonymous. NFP makes Man synonymous with Nature which suggests that Man is God.

That’s my version of how it all works. I’m eager to hear what Anne thinks about that–and much more.

June 20, 2014 – Attachments

Joe discussed the trappings of attachments. A common problem we see in the world today. It is through mortification and prayer that this modern form of slavery is overcome and the path to holiness is achieved.

June 4, 2014 – Family Matters

Francesca Franchina, MS Ed. and Marika Zimmerman address “family matters” discuss the importance of the Christian family as addressed and written by St. John Paul II in his Letter to Families GRATTISIMAM SANE in the Year of the Family 1994, focusing on the needs and duties of the family, spiritual warfare in the breakdown of the family (basic unit of civilization and Society) and what families, schools, parishes and communities need to do to address the problem and suggestions to foster solutions to build up and strengthen the family.

May 21, 2014 – Adoption, a beautiful choice–Colleen D.C Marquez

Christine Watkins interviews Colleen D.C Marquez, an expert in adoption education, who shares the why and the ways to help the culture embrace adoption as a loving option – for those facing an unplanned pregnancy or infertility. See her book on adoption for those with infertility: www.giftforlittletree.com.

May 13, 2014 – Damon Owens

The recent canonization of Saint John Paul II has drawn new attention to his “Theology of the Body” and its impact on the Culture of Life. His biographer, George Weigel has said that TotB will impact every teaching of the Creed and it will take decades to fully comprehend its influence on the faith and the faithful.

Damon Owens left an impressive career in the business arena to devote his life to full-time work in marriage and family ministry. He has served as Natural Family Planning and Marriage Preparation Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Newark, founded two non-profit organizations (New Jersey Natural Family Planning Association and Joy-Filled Marriage New Jersey), and led initiatives for various pro-life and pro-family organizations such as the New Jersey Catholic Bishops Conference, The Children First Foundation, and Life Education and Resource Network (L.E.A.R.N.), the largest African-American, pro-life ministry in the country. Damon is a certified speaker and has been lecturing for the Theology of the Body Institute since 2005. In December of 2011, Damon was named the Executive Director of the Theology of the Body Institute. He and his wife, Melanie, have been married for 18 years and have eight children.

Many of our listeners are familiar with the Theology of the Body because of Christopher West’s presentations that have popularized TotB throughout the USA and in dozens of other countries in the short span of 10 years.

Owen will give us a brief summary of the Theology of the Body, the work of the Theology of the Body Institute founded by Christopher West, and this summer’s International Theology of the Body Congress in Philadelphia.

April 08, 2014 – Peter LaBarbera

Peter will be our Guest on “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America” Tuesday NOON ET. He is President of Americans For Truth about Homosexuality (AFTAH), a non-partisan, non-profit group dedicated to exposing the homosexual-bisexual-transgender activist agendas. AFTAH is a counter to over a dozen national American “gay” groups with annual budgets ranging from just under $1 million to over $30 million working to advance an agenda which threatens to criminalize Christian opposition to behavior that most Americans believe is wrong.
LaBarbera has debated the top homosexual advocates while appearing on hundreds of TV and radio news programs, including FOX’s Hannity and Colmes, CNN’s “The Larry King Show” and CNN’s “Crossfire,” C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal,” National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered,” and Bill O’Reilly’s and Alan Colmes’ nationally syndicated radio programs. He has been quoted on homosexuality-related issues in newspapers across the nation, including The New York Times,Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, as well as by Associated Press and Reuters.
Peter will address Health Issues associated with homosexual behaviors and the question of whether same-sex-attraction (SSA) is a condition/disorder that people are born with or acquired. He will also examine the motives behind efforts to normalize SSA in our schools and culture. Are these often extreme tactics creating a back lash that will eventually bring these efforts down?

April 1, 2014 – Katherine Ginkel

Katherine Ginkel has a unique job as educator of St Jude Hospice staff personnel on the Ethical and Religious Directives (ERDs) for Catholic Health Care Workers. These Directives were developed by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops to set a standard of care that is to be expected by all Catholic health care institutions and their employees and associates. These ERDs are periodically updated to reflect the ever changing threats to the dignified treatment and care of those who are in need of care in clinics, hospitals and in all critical and end-of-life care situations. For example, the ERDs absolutely forbid abortion and euthanasia.

The hospice industry is not always respectful of the dignity of human persons and their right to a natural death. Hospice care can be on opportunity for euthanasia as we reported in one of last year’s “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America” programs. The vocabulary now includes the phrase “stealth euthanasia” to describe the over dosing of pain medications to cause death.

St Jude Hospice was started by Tom Moreland as an authentically Catholic (loyal to Church teaching as reflected in the ERDs) alternative to secular hospice. In 2008, Tom started Saint Jude Healthcare, which eventually became the parent to Saint Jude Hospice and Spirit Homecare. Tom managed or owned hospices from Ohio to Mississippi, and Minnesota to California. There are now 13 St Jude Hospice locations in Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. Tom has requests from several bishops to open new locations in their dioceses.

March 13, 2014 – Simcha Fisher and Michelle Buckman

Ken talks with Simcha Fisher author of The Sinner’s Guide to Natural Family Planning (Our Sunday Visitor) and Michelle Buckman author of Death Panels: A Novel of Life, Liberty, and Faith (St Benedict Press) Simcha lightens the sobriety of NFP with smart-alecky, comic descriptions of real situations, and presents information on how couples struggle with common issues – sexual, communication, even spiritual — and navigate them. Michelle’s novel Death Panels is an exciting and disturbing story of a not-too-distant future in which our current political battles over life and freedom have reached an explosive crossroads and a clarion call to all Christians and lovers of liberty. March 11, 2014 – Fr Andrew Apostoli, CFR Part 2

Please join us again this week with Fr Apostoli as we continue last week’s very interesting program about Our Lady of Fatima’s warnings and promises, specifically that Russia would be converted and there would be a period of peace in the world.
After Pope Blessed John Paul II completed the consecration in 1984, as Mary had requested in her appearance to Lucia in 1929, it did seem that great changes were taking place in Russia, including the complete abandonment of Communism, and a renewed receptivity to religion. And more recently, President Putin has been reducing access to abortion, eliminating promotion of homosexuality, and encouraging women to have children. Are Russian designs on the Ukraine a step backward? Did Mary change her mind?
This week we will focus on the Fatima story, the lives of the three children Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta. What were they like? Was their life idyllic or difficult? What kind of sufferings did they experience and what was their attitude toward suffering? What of Mary’s messages is still applicable to us in 21st Century America?
The children were shown a vision of Hell which affected them deeply. Should we take heed or trust in the mercy of God?
Also, this week a miracle has been accepted as due to the intercession of Archbishop Fulton Sheen, which will advance the cause for his canonization. Father Apostoli is vice-postulator for Archbishop Sheen so Father must be very pleased that his work is bearing fruit. I’ll ask him about that.

September 6, 2013 – Live from the Offices of the Brazos Valley Coalition for Life

A live broadcast from the offices of the Brazos Valley Coalition for Life as they prepare for their September 7 celebration of the closing of the Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Bryan, Texas.

August 16, 2013 – Jim Ball

Jim Ball, part of the leadership team of the 40 Days for Life campaign in Green Bay, Wisconsin, discusses the closing of the OB-GYN Associates of Green Bay abortion clinic and what his organization plans to do now.

August 13, 2013 – Alan Parker

Alan Parker is the attorney president of San Antonio based The Justice Foundation (TJF) offering free legal representation to those whose fundamental freedoms and rights are being threatened. He serves as the lead legal counsel for Norma McCorvey (“Jane Roe” of Roe vs Wade) and Sandra Cano (“Mary Doe” of Doe vs Bolton) and is advancing the Culture of Life in America in a variety of ways, including fighting for parents rights in the education of their children.

TJF’s “Center Against Forced Abortion” offers letters to parents, fathers, and abortionists to discourage forcing or coercing girls into having an abortion. These have saved thousands of lives and can be used by you to give to a minor girl, her parents, teachers/counselors/pastors or anyone who may try to convince her to abort. She alone has the right to choose; that’s the law. The letters are available at www.TheJusticeFoundation.org.

I also expect to ask Alan about the future of abortion in America. With tougher restrictions becoming increasingly common, we are seeing more abortion facilities close each month. Are we really winning the fight for LIFE?

Another TJF project is collecting the testimonies of aborted women who wish they had NOT aborted their son or daughter. These powerful human stories are being used to convince legislators and voters that abortion should not be an option because it causes depression, grief, regret, suicide, and severe health problems for the mothers–and of course, killS their children.

August 9, 2013 – David Bereit, national director of 40 Days for Life

David Bereit, national director of 40 Days for Life, joins us to discuss the closing of the Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Bryan/College Station, Texas. He also gives the latest information on the 40 Days For Life campaigns around the world.

July 30, 2013 – Kim Schnitker

Kim Schnitker (KC) is absolutely passionate about NFP (Natural Family Planning). She will talk to anyone, anywhere about NFP, and claims that 10% of the children in her parish school are from parents that she taught NFP. With Catholic schools closing on a regular basis, maybe KC has the solution for keeping them viable/sustainable.

KC has a great story of conversion to Catholicism and NFP. How does she balance being wife to Ed and mother to six with her avocation for NFP couple recruiting, teaching and speaking? I think you will enjoy hearing her tell her story.

Every year or two the NFP community of teachers and promoters debates a name change for “Natural Family Planning”. Various alternatives have been proposed, like “Fertility Awareness Methods”, but so far none have caught on. KC proposes “Moral Family Planning” = MFP.

July 26, 2013 – Sarah Zagorski

Sarah Zagorski of Louisiana Right to Life and NOLA Needs Peace talking about the fight against the new Planned Parenthood abortion facility planned for New Orleans.

July 23, 2013 – Christopher Gawley

Christopher Gawley is a lawyer for Morgan Stanley, a convert to the faith, and a columnist for The Remnant, Online www.remnantnewspaper.com. I’m interviewing him at Noon ET on Tuesday the 23rd because he has written a captivating article in Christian Order, May 2013, p 53-65, titled, “Heroic Parenthood”, which could have been sub-titled, “The upgrade from responsible parenthood and NFP”.

Since “NFP Awareness Week” began on Sunday, it seems appropriate to talk about NFP–Natural Family Planning. Now, I realize that some listeners may be perplexed by me and One More Soul being strong promoters of NFP while also providing Guests [like Fr William Gardner, Dr Jay Boyd, and now Christopher Gawley] a platform for questioning NFP. I rationalize this seeming inconsistency as a continuing commitment to (and search for) Truth [CAPITAL “T”=from God]. I advocate NFP and SNFP, that is “SuperNatural Family Planning”–letting God plan family size. It seems hard to argue that a human couple can compete with God in the determination of anything, but especially something as awesome as procreating another human being who will exist for all eternity–infinity!

I have no quarrel with Holy Mother Church’s approval of married couples knowing and using periodic abstinence to avoid conception for just and serious reason. That is what the Church teaches. What we are saying is that letting God decide should be considered as a superior approach to family planning.

“Heroic Parenthood” can be found at www.christianorder.com.

July 12, 2013 – John Pisciotta

John Pisciotta of Pro-Life Waco talking about all the successful battles they have had against PP in Waco, Texas.

July 5, 2013 – Joe Pojman

Joe Pojman of Texas Alliance for Life who was in the gallery in the Texas senate chambers this week when the pro-aborts staged a mob scene to prevent an anti-abortion bill from passing. Joe will talk about what it was like being there and what is happening now in Texas to get the legislation passed.

July 02, 2013

Are abortion, contraception, and “same-sex marriage” the irreversible result of inevitable “progress”? Or is it possible to “turn back the clock” by turning back to God?

June 25, 2013 – Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust

Please join Jeff and Kristina, and several Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust on Radio Maria’s “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America”.
You may ask, “Who are the ‘Survivors of . . . ‘?” Some new TV adventure program, where your comrades evict you every week? NOT!
Survivors are anyone born since Roe vs Wade made abortion legal in every state, at any age, for any reason. The particular Survivors we will be chatting with have either been through a “pro-life boot camp” or are in the current “camp” in southern California. These are young adults 14-29 who have paid almost $500 to be immersed in the pro-life movement with two-solid weeks of seminars and activism. They graduate with the energy, enthusiasm, commitment, knowledge, and experience to be the pro-life leaders in our communities for years to come.

June 21, 2013 – Chris Slattery

Guest Chris Slattery of Expectant Mother Care in New York City talks about operating 12 pregnancy resource centers in the most pro-abortion city in the nation. He discloses how his organization has saved enough babies to almost fill Yankee Stadium to capacity.

Why Mary with Fr. Dwight Campbell

Why Mary? Why honor Mary? Why go to Mary? Why pray to her, asking her to intercede for us? To answer these questions we must understand who Mary is and what her place is in God’s loving plan of redemption and salvation. In explaining who Mary is and her singular role, I will discuss basic teachings on Our Lady; e.g., the four Marian dogmas, Mary’s spiritual Motherhood in the order of grace, her Queenship, etc, and discuss what our response should be to these truths about her.

June 11, 2013 – Steven Ertelt

Steven Ertelt’s pro-life credentials run deep–National Right to Life Committee,Students for Life of America, Indiana Right to Life, Montana Right to Life and Colorado Citizens for Life. In 1993, he founded LifeNews to provide timely internet news of interest to a rapidly growing pro-life community.

Please join Steven and Steve (me) to learn what the latest developments are in a rapidly changing culture dominated by government attacks on life, family, religion, privacy, health and marriage. How can we respond? Isn’t government supposed to serve the people?

May 17, 2013 – Paul Rondeau

This show had Paul Rondeau, Washington Times columnist and executive director of American Life League as the guest. Topics discussed: The Gosnell murder trial; and the IPPF and UNESCO promortion of deviant sexuality.

May 15, 2013

Francesca Franchina, MS Ed. talks with Dayton international Festival Council Members about the 40th Anniversary Year of The Dayton International Festival held at the Convention Center in Dayton, Ohio on Pentecost Weekend not only about the good food and great entertainment but what happens behind the scenes in such a vast undertaking bringing together numerous ethnic groups from all over the world, living in the heartland of America in the USA! How long do they gather to plan each year strategizing problem areas amenably with varying temperaments, languages and rules of engagement? Who is included in planning and membership rights; how are the ups, downs, calamities and great joys dealt with each year as they determine theme, organizational structure and amiably put together all the booths, venues and multiple staging of continuous entertainment, highlighted by a Midnight Mass for workers on Saturday night/Sunday morning. What is the mission, vision and purpose of DIFI? How are they faring with all the uproars throughout the world, does it affect DIFI in Dayton, OH? Ethnicity is alive andwell in Dayton, and growing new communities arrive and stay here! Why do they call Dayton, Ohio home now?

May 7, 2013 – Anne Cherney

Anne Cherney is the mother of 10 and has her Masters in Theology from the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family. She has written a soon to be published book with the working title Supernatural Family Planning, the Original Method. Anne continues our Quest for a better understanding of the Church’s teaching on “family planning” and our responsibility in that area of life.
Anne is thus our 4th Guest in the recent past to treat the subject of NFP, following Fr William Gardner–pastor for Diocese of Peoria, Dr Jay Boyd–Developmental Psychologist and Catholic blogger from Oregon, and Kim Cole–long-time teacher of the Ovulation Method in Colorado Springs.

May 1, 2013 – Dale Nieberding

Francesca Franchina, MS Ed speaks with Dale Nieberding, Founder and Director of GOOD SHEPHERD MINISTRIES, DAYTON, OHIO about his life and the directions the Lord has taken him to found and advance the very blessed and successful GOOD SHEPHERD MINISTRIES restoring the lives of people with histories of incarceration, drug and alcohol abuse and broken relationships through a simple faith based response by helping restore lives and relationships, developing spiritual values and Bible Study fostering recovery, providing material needs and housing with God’s help and the help of a caring compassionate community and many benefactors who give of themselves, their treasure and talents.

April 30, 2013 – Dr Dominick Pedulla

Our Guest this week is Dr Dominick Pedulla from Oklahoma City, where he is a highly respected varicose vein surgeon board certified in cardiology, internal medicine and vein surgery. Dr Pedulla also has a long history of interest in natural family planning and the harmful impact of unnatural birth control methods on mothers and children. This interest prompted him and three other physicians (one also a priest) to thoroughly review the Plan B literature to discern if and when Plan B operated as an abortifacient.

Their study was prompted by bishops in several countries approving the use of Plan B in Catholic hospitals to treat women who had been raped. The intent of such use is to prevent an obviously unplanned conception, realizing that children conceived in rape are at high risk of being aborted. Drs Pedullah, Peck, Kahlenborn and Velez were suspicious about the literature claiming that Plan B has no abortifacient effect. The similarity between hormonal birth control (with its admitted potential for acting as an abortifaciant) and the hormones in Plan B made it seem likely that Plan B would act as an abortifacient at least some of the time.

Plan B is now available over the counter (without prescription) to women 17 or older. Several concerns are apparent: What are the health risks for the woman taking Plan B? How does it work? Ever as an abortifacient? Are women/couples leaning toward a Plan B approach to birth control to avoid the constant pollution of their bodies that characterizes other methods of hormonal birth control?

April 24, 2013 – Dr. Douglas Schoeninger, Ph.D.

Francesca Franchina, MS Ed. and Christian Psychotherapist Dr. Douglas Schoeninger, Ph.D., Past President of The Association of Christian Therapists (www.actheals.org) Editor of The Journal of Christian Healing, discuss the healing process and aftermath of inner healing, getting past the effects, recognizing causes, discovering the roots/cause of the addiction whether it be alcohol, drugs, shopping, which are symptoms, manifestations of the inner problem and not the source. Getting to the roots of any addiction including alcohol addictions; the drug of choice, the introduction to feeling good; losing & gaining control; the importance of faith in all situations; dealing with trauma and secondary trauma; triggering of other traumas like date rape and promiscuity; effects on children and adults who grew up drinking, being exposed to alcohol; fetal alcohol syndrome and tragic deaths related to alcohol: drunkenness and fires, poisoning, suicides, accidental suicides, spring breaks, media, games. Responsibility of parents and those in authority; Who can do something about this epidemic? Using Scripture; “Forgive them Lord, they know not what they are doing. Lk 23:34; Psalms& Words of Jesus for Inner Healing; and Generational Healing are part of the inner healing of ones soul; Romans 8: 26 – 28; LK 23: 41,45; MATT 27:46; MK 15:34; LK 23:46;JN 19:28; JN 19:30

April 2, 2013 – Fr John Harvey

Courage is an international organization founded by Fr John Harvey to provide support for men and women who strive for chastity while experiencing sexual attraction to members of the same gender. Fr Klee is the leader of such a group and so we will be learning about homosexuality and the current push for redefining marriage to accommodate homosexual relationships. Where does homosexuality come from? Can parents reduce the risk of their children claiming a homosexual orientation? What about the “equality” and “compassion” arguments that fuel the popularity of support for redefining marriage? Are these legitimate reasons? How can one respond with generosity, kindness, and respect for the dignity of all human beings? What is it about marriage that makes it exclusive to one man and one woman–other restrictions do apply?

March 19, 2013 – Kim Cole

Our Guest on “The Quest for a Culture of Life in America” two weeks ago was Dr Jay Boyd who has blogged about Natural Family Planning (NFP) for over a year at “Philothea on Phire”—–http://philotheaonphire.blogspot.com/. She and some of her blog friends have raised serious questions about the teaching, use, and advocacy of NFP. Those who are deeply committed to NFP did not like much of what she had to say. You may listen to that program at http://radiomaria.us/questforlife/. Based on her blog, Dr Jay has composed a book, Natural Family Planning: Trojan Horse in the Catholic Bedroom?

I and One More Soul have been strong promoters of NFP for well over a decade, so some listeners have expressed surprise and disappointment in my giving Dr Boyd a platform. My response is three fold: 1) I am always looking for the Truth (that comes from God who is love, beauty, goodness and truth); 2) NFP is good, but maybe there is something even better; and 3) our Guest today–Kim Cole–will share her experience of the good fruits of NFP.

Kim has taught the Billings Method of NFP for over 17 years, first in Redding CA, and for the past 10+ years in the Phoenix Diocese. She has taught over 100 couples in a great variety of situations and will attest to the dramatic changes for the better that NFP has caused for these couples.

She and her couples are very blessed to be in the Diocese of Phoenix which requires couples being prepared for marriage to receive a thorough NFP course. Some priests are requiring couples going through RCIA to complete the same course. You will be amazed by her stories and the statistics she can cite for the parish where she has taught for many years.

October 7, 2012 – Can God’s plan include failure?

In today’s show Janis and Fr. Peter discuss the topic of “Can God’s Plan Include Failure?” with a particular focus on a very specific failure—the terrible scourge of pornography that is devastating marriages and families. Nancy, our guest, tells us of the awful suffering in her own family from her father’s addiction to pornography, and how that contributed to the sexual abuse of his own daughter. Nancy shares the glorious story of how the Lord healed her and empowered her to forgive her father, and how doing so set her free and enabled her to snatch victory out of the jaws of failure through the power of the Cross. Our culture tells us in many different ways that pornography is OK. That it’s normal and natural to get wrapped up in it. But Nancy’s experience tells quite a different story. Janis and Fr. Peter draw from the wisdom of the Church as they discuss this topic and offer help to those who are struggling with an addiction to pornography and other immoral sexual activities. It really is possible to be set free! Failure is not the final word! Like Nancy, we are all called to snatch victory from the jaws of failure. No matter what our failures may have been, God still has a plan, and he’ll work it out if only we turn to him, open our hearts to the healing power of the Holy Spirit, and ask for Mary’s intercession! Join us next week for part two of “Can God’s Plan Include Failure?”
