I’m not an authority on chastity and “abstinence” education programs, but I’m pretty sure that for many (most?), FEAR is the prime motivator–fear of pregnancy, disease, and emotional trauma. Teen STAR is unique in emphasizing the beauty and blessing and purpose of human sexuality. Teen STAR treats young men and women with the dignity and reverence appropriate to their age by teaching them about their bodies and how God intends for their bodies to be treated and cared for.
As Fertility Educator Emily Sederstrand says, “When you teach a woman [anyone, really] how her body works, you are teaching her about her creator”. I say, “Learning about your Creator is THE most important purpose/value of Teen STAR”.
Teen STAR was developed by internationally renowned Dr Hanna Klaus, Ob/Gyn, NFP teacher and advocate for the Billings Ovulation Method. Dr Klaus spent 7 very busy years as a Medical Mission Sister in Pakistan. In 1980, she developed the Teen STAR Program that is now popular in over 30 countries primarily in Europe, Africa and South America.
Joining us will be Teen STAR Teacher Dorothy Duganzic, and Fr Peter Pomposello-pastor of Holy Cross Parish in the Bronx where Dorothy has been teaching Teen STAR to JHS students for 5 years. We can also expect Mr Ernie Zalamae, Principal, Holy Cross School, and some of the students to be with us to share their experience with the Teen STAR Program.
